    VX9900/enV is too loud!

Just started listening to mp3s on my enV. I have two issues:

    1) With the headphones plugged in, any time I use a button it beeps. Very, very loudly. And the volume control on the side of the phone does not seem to affect the volume of the button sound.

    2) Mp3s are unlistenably loud. Using the volume control on the phone, it is either off or way too loud.

I have gone in and disabled all the system sounds I can find, and set all system volumes to their absolute lowest, and nothing helps. I have gone into the service menu and the earpiece gain is off. I am considering just buying some headphones with an in-line volume control, but it annoys me that I cannot currently address the problem from within the phone.

So, how can I turn the overall volume of the phone down further without turning the volume completely off? And is there a "no button press sounds, ever" setting?

These are "known" issues with the enV, the volume is extremely loud with headphones and the only way to fix it is to get a new firmware version from Verizon that lowers the volume level internally, otherwise you would need a set of headphones with a volume control inline.

Thanks for the reply! Will Verizon readily update my firmware? Or will they make a big fuss about it?

They do it all the time, just make sure to take it a corporate store that does upgrades (you can usually check online or call in to make sure the store does that) and they will do it for you, there's no cost or anything like that.

Called my local Verizon store today - they said it's no problem to get the software update. Thanks for all the help!

I think there are some threads about LG enV (VX9900) firmware updates either in this forum or in the VZW LG sub-forum that probably have some more detailed information as to what was changed.

I don't think there is new firmware out for the VX9900 yet that addresses these issues. We are all still waiting for new firmware. The latest is still v02 for any VX9900 flavor (silver/orange/green) to my knowledge.

So this firmware update would not be one that is customized to the user, but a general update that may or may not fix the volume problem?

Incidentally, how can I tell what version firmware I have on my orange enV?

It should be somewhere in the phone settings under the tools & settings menu. Alternatively I believe you can dial #HELP*HELP which will bring up a lot of information about the phone, including the firmware version. However, in the case of the orange (and green) enVs I don't believe there have been any updates yet.

The setting is not in the phone anywhere.

I went to my local Verizon yesterday and got the latest firmware. It did not fix the volume problem.

You can get headphones that have a volume built into them. I got them when I had my old pocket PC and they work much better.

Probably not quite the thread for this, but since this came up here: it looks like version 4 of the firmware has recently been release for all versions of the LG enV--there's a thread on it in the VZW LG sub-forum.

Yeah, saw that. Looks like it does nothing for the volume issue according to someone in that thread. Too bad, that is probably the most comlained about bug in the enV.
