This sucks the updated $20 communication plan is normal voice mail (as was the old version). I would take that for the unlimited browsing (plus the extra stuff) if it works for the HTC Touch but at least 5 times a week I brake 10 messages before I can pick them up so I have to have enhanced voice mail
I have two accounts and three numbers. Once I found the page that showed what phone was being used on each line but have never been able to find it again. On my phone it showed nothing as I was using a QTEK S200, the other too phones did show the correct "bought from Rogers" phones as being in use.
So if I understand clearly my 5$/5mb plan will be replace by this $5/Unlim On-Device Mobile Browsing and still use my other apps to receive currency update, data, etc without a dime spent if I use Rogers Internet setting on my Nokia N95 ?
lol, I was absolutely not riled up, nor was I being insulting.
Honestly, if it came across that way I apologise.
I asked you a question 3 times because I Honestly did not know your answer and I sincerely want to know.
If I am mistaken and Rogers does still advertive unlimited when there is a cap then Please tell me. How would I know about Rogers Cable? There is no Rogers cable here.
...however based on your response it sounds like you are agreeing that they (currently, not past, not future) no longer do advertise unlimited when it isn't.
Sorry, I thought the whole "living in the past" comment was unjustified. anyways, it's not a big deal. just to clarify, I'd like to agree with you that rogers currently markets "unlimited" as "unlimited" with no strings attached, but in reality, that is probably not going to be the case. I also do agree that they haven't used "unlimited" in their marketing in a while so there's no good current model we can compare this to.
In anycase, we need more speculation! what do y'all think of this:
I think the possible outcomes are:
1) "UL mobile browser" is for regular data but the plan is locked/limited to specific rogers phones.
2) "UL mobile browser" is for regular data but a soft usage cap is enforced
3) "UL mobile browser" is for only wap data. w or w/o a usage cap
an important piece of info is that "Note: Windows Mobile, PDAs & Blackberry phones aren't eligible for $5 Unlim On-Device Mobile Browsing". I think this rules out option 3 since what does rogers care what device you're on when using WAP data? That leaves option 1 or 2.
We all know rogers doesn't have any way of locking down what device is allowed or not allowed on the system. We've seen people sign up for vision plans using other phones and we've even seen non-blackberry people use BB dataplans. Also, they wouldn't bundle UL data in teh 20$ communicate pack that can potentially be added onto anybody's plan without restrictions. This rules out option 1.
This pretty much leaves option 2. (yay?)
this either means us WM/PDA/BB users are forced to sign up for the $20 dollar communicate pack.
The real question is how rogers plans on handling tethering. They will probably use softcap limiting they use with their cable modem and impose some low number like 100 megs or 200 megs before cutting people off... A lot of people will probably agree that's "reasonable" for on-device browsing and sufficiently stops anyone from using it as a permenant tethered internet connection.
on the website, you have to input your phone number, and it will send you a confirmation SMS, and you have to type in the confirmation number, from then on you can message through the message you got from MSN, by typing "cl" (without the "), and when a contact list pops up, it will give you an option to contact a friend who's online, and to contact them you have to reply to that sms by typing the number that the friend corresponds to, say the list is like following:
1 Joe
2 Larry
3 Monsieur Moustache
4 Random Person
and you want to contact "Random Person" instead of say Larry, you would reply to the text "4 hey what's up?" or whatever you would usually say, minus the "
and from there you should get the hang of it, but I haven't done the inputting phone number step in over a year, the website could have changed since
thx for the info, but im not planning on using MSN thru SMS.. im more concern wit MSN wit mobile internet =)
WOw talk about specualtion and people freaking out about facts that aren't facts. Seriously people save your blood pressure and stop panicking about what people are saying when they have no idea what they're talking about. Obviously if they're promoting it as unlimited on device they will be monotoring what you're using one way or another. Also they only automatically upgrade you if there are absolutely no repercussion in doing so. So if this thing doesnt work with forein IMEI's or with certain phones chances are you will get grandfathered into the plan that you have. That means unless you change it they won't remove it. They dont upgrade everything automatically, like value paks with 75 txt messages still have the same amount. So will everyone please stop panicking? I don't want to have to lock this thread because then it'll fall way down the list but I will if people don't start new threads instead of following the darn topic.
lol, RO, I already tried.
It's a no-win situation, that's why it sucks for everyone when news gets leaked before launch.
Sure..what is ANY phone that Rogers does not carry considered? They can't possibly have every phone in their database lol.
Every phone that has a unique, correct and proper vendor applied IMEI can be identified all the way down to the manufacturer (and model most of the time) based on the TAC. Hard links can be placed only allowing certain handsets, based on IMEI, to have access. How likely is this? I'd say slim, but it's can be done very easily as a backend precursor to additions of a "data plan". V21 already has IMEI and IMSI stored within the BAN, a quick database check for match and eligibility is all it would take - not hard by any means. Post an IMEI and I'll show you.
If this happens, except to see IMEI "updating" on the uprise and I suggest you buy some stocks in HTC, Sony Ericsson and Motorola.
