No kidding! And even more rough for Fido customers following this, because we never know if we're getting the same stuff right away (sometimes) or getting it a few months later (often).

I understand the bb users and Windows Mobile users dont have access this to this $5 browsing plan, so it is pretty safe to assume that people with iPhones wont be able to use this as well>

Hmm, unfortunate. Can anyone explain why it wouldn't necessarily work? Does it have to do with internet.com and goam.com? I'm guessing goam.com wouldn't allow safari on the iphone to connect. Is this correct?

There is still a big gap in their data offerings that ignores smart phones. Is there any hint of this changing?

HUP to a $0 phone then swap sim back into old phone?
Data is data, and they probably think the phone they have on file for you is pretty accurate.

The network knows what phone you are using as soon as you put your sim in it and turn it on. It knows the make, model, Rogers or non-Rogers.

Perhaps they are actually going to lock out foreign IMEI's and PDA's from accessing the plan?

They will market this as if it's for everyone - even though the WM and bb users are the ones who would actually get the most use out of this.

This would be enough to make me Switch to Telus - they are charging $65 for 1 gig and $5 for unlimited just based on the OS your phone is running... ****.

Can anyone from Rogers confirm whether or not this unlimited browsing on phones is only for the Rogers portal, or can I go hog-wild on Opera Mini?

Not true at all. Technically you're not even supposed to have the $65 plan on a phone. It's meant for PC Cards, and it's there to compete with the Bell and Telus $60 for 1 gig PC Card plans.

Rogers has only two "official" data plans for regular phones: $5/5mb or $10/10mb, and soon $5 unlimited. And for PDA's Rogers offers $80 for 500MB's. Yes you can use the $65 if you want, but it's not officially available for phones/PDA's.

    Cheers.
