I agree. Rogers thought I was using a phone from 4 years ago. I just never did a HUP or renewed my contract. The phone they have on file is the last one you got registered with, did a HUP with. From my understanding at least.
maybe it could only show you phones that they have sold or carry and not unlocked versions from else wheres.
The phone on file is not a real-time tracking system. It is just there for reference and is different from what the network actually sees. As soon as you pu your sim in another phone and turn it on the network knows and they can see it, even if your "file" has your old phone listed.
Line 1: (Mobilicity) BTS 25 on PAC - Unlimited local talk/text/data @ $23/month Line 2: (Wind) Irresistible35 - Unlimited everything @ $35/month Line 3: (Wind) Holiday Miracle - Unlimited everything @ $40/month Line 4: (Fido) Retention - Unlimited North America talk & text @ $50/month Line 5: (Wind) All in the Family Laptop - Unlimited data @ $15/month
All my posts are my own opinion only and not necessarily that of any of my employers, past or present.

That makes sense. I guess they better start training people soon, since I called to change one of the essential packs on my 2nd Rogers line. And she tried to get me a HUP along with a new contract. And she read me the phone that was registered 4 years ago. I guess we'll see.
On the other hand as mentioned in this thread, when I put a Rogers brand phone it will show up in my online profile, however when its a non-rogers phone, nothing shows up. So I guess the system does work. Just matter of time.
That was good 4 years ago, now you cant judge someone job by his phone
Exactly, I see people who are quite noob-ish when it comes to technology and don't have a corporate job or anything playing around on their Blackberries, things change
Anyway, bottom line is that they do have the capability of knowing which phone you are using. So, based on that I can see them controling how much you are charged based on which phone type you are using and not based on what you are using to connect (internet or goam). This can be very easily tested once the new plans kick in. Until then, we can only guess.
Best things in life are free! I guess I am with the wrong provider then...
BB users are x types of persons
WM users are y types of persons
Cell users are z types of persons

I'm a journeyman machinist that uses a windows mobile 6 PDA... i guess i need to either change my job or my phone so i fit in with their classification system.
what's hilarious is that the biggest benefit of GSM is sim swapping... but their plans by their nature discourage that... one plan for windows mobile, another plan needed when i use my Nokia N80.

that is exactly right.... with GSM, sim swapping is great, and with these 'new options' it really discourages one of GSMs great features.
We can only speculate as to what will happen... as a business exec myself, Id really say that they'd be bettr suited to just market it as WAP only and lie on the phone (like usual), but for us in the know keep data as data and be real forward with the cap (they can easily say 50mb or whatever is plenty for WAP browsing and if you go over, ull pay huge overages and prob doing something ur not supposed to be doing). If its capped at 50mb and u tether, ull b screwed on ur own.. and rogers will be raking in the overage charges with no sympathy.

50MB is not close to enough to call it unlimited WAP.
Just using WAP, on a Regular phone I easily exceed 50MB a week.

There won't be a cap. Rogers doesn't say Unlimited and then have it capped, if it says unlimited, it is unlimited.
You might want to re-think that statement. Through out numerous, if not all, lines of business the term "unlimited" has never actually proved to mean "unlimited".
