    Ok,

Here is my first working Time and Date Wallpaper!!!

    http://www.box.net/shared/renb17o084
Included is the swf file and the fla file.

Now it would seem that if I try to rotate the date/time and preview it, the data would blank out, so becareful. I will come back to this later on to make it better, but not bad for my first T/D Wallpaper!

Even after following that tutorial, it still doesn't work correctly. I have managed to get the image on the phone, but the clock does not show up. I've looked over this thread 3 times now, every post, looking for something I may have missed. I'm very lost right now. All I really want is to put a standard 24hr clock on an existing wallpaper that I have. Is there someone willing to post or PM me a time code for this, that also indicates exactly what characters go on each individual line and how many total lines there should be? Like: Line 1 root.onEnter bla blah to {, line 2 space, line 3 time= blah bla, and so on?

I'm convinced that one or more of the characters themselves are wrong somewhere. What can I possibly be missing? Is there anyone else that has successfully made a clock using the trial?

    the calls are xxxx.getMinutes()

    xxxx.getHours() etc

the xxxs can be replaced with whatever variable name you want

Did you grab the FLA file I posted and looked at the links to the tutorial sites?

I would say either start from scratch or take that FLA file I made and modify it to your liking.

I am using the 30 day evaluation of Flash CS3.
BTW-I just noticed that if you have an alert (appointment/missed call/vm/txt message etc) that status bar will cover the date and part of the time... I will fix this later.

    MMMMMOOOOOPPPPPEEEEEDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you sooo much, that made perfect sense! I have successfully made a clock, and after seeing it done in the tutorial, I even added a date!!! (which came out a little bit low)

ITDEFX- I edited the time to 24hrs and moved it around a little bit after reading the tutorials and staring at the codes for an hour or so. Thanks to you, now I have 2 clocks!

Now I have to take it easy, the next time I try this I'll screw it up and start from the beginning again knowing my luck

Someone give me a pointer how to make them show up here so you can see them please I know photobucket will host a jpeg or gif, how can I show you all the .swf??

    Thanks guys!

No problem, care to share the 24 hr code and a hint of why when I rotate my date/time it blanks out?

After lots and lots of studying, and comparing your time code to the 24 hour ones posted here in this thread, I determined that since you use NO AM/PM, and use the seconds - 00:00:00 - it became really easy to see how to change it (really it was like 2 hours). The 2 occurences of >12 in your code can just be changed from 12 to 24 and it will run in standard time

For the date rotation, the little box needs to say DYNAMIC and you have to select the FREE TRANSFORM TOOL located 3 icons above the TEXT TOOL on the vertical toolbar on the left side of the workspace. I know this works because I used the code in your file to create my date on my second clock. It is angled almost 15 degrees, so the date shows up on the ledge of the building in my jpeg.

The only thing I botched on was using the EMBED button like suggested in the tutorial. It embedded the font I was using (papyrus) to see the time and date on the clock/wall that I made. Now that .swf file is 2.1mb huge!!! Any suggestions as to how to drop the KB rate down so it's under 500KB or so?

    your welcome

you'll notice all the pix are mainly jpeg

i take a snapshot of the preview window , then put it on a photo host....we all do
HOFO won't let you embed any html to run the swf file live in realtime

then we put up a file share link for the download

ok, when I get in front of my computer later I'll take a pic of the image and put it on my dotphoto page. From there I can link it, correct? Dotphoto should work, right? I just need a pic sharing site, so photobucket or dotphoto or any of them should be fine, I think.

If I'm using an image that is only 35kb to start with and I add a clock to it, why is it jumping to 2Mb? Most of the clocks posted in this thread are all smaller than 60Kb. Is there some kind of compression that I need to be adding to the .swf file?

it sounds like, it swelled from the fonts, some font files are large,

was it a bitmapped font BMP or a truetype font TT, you have to look at the font specs, or font folder and file viewer to find out

but bmp fonts take up more memory/storage space than tt fonts

if you Publish and fla file/folder you can look in it and see what are the biggest 'resources'

That does sound vaguely familiar. At one point while I was making the clock, I noticed in the work window on the bottom of the image window, that there was a little icon with BITMAP next to it. I thought that if I clicked it, it would turn the jpeg into a bmp, so I steered clear of it. Now I will go back and add this to my list of things to analyze this afternoon!

Thanks for all the tips and help guys!

Alright, I don't understand what setting I need to change for this to work correctly. Every time I import a new jpeg image to the stage, it appears as a bitmap image. Why is that? The image I chose is not very fancy at all, in fact it's only 4KB in size. I was hoping that if I started with a smaller KB image, then I could adjust the font to TT instead of using BMP and keep the total clock.swf smaller thaN 60KB (OR at least under 100KB), but this doesn't seem to be the case. Is there a setting somewhere else in CS3 that would allow the image to remain a jpeg?

    Thanks guys.

WOOOOOOOHOOOO!!!! I got the image pic link thing right! About time!!!

Anyway, these are what my clocks look like (I made them a bit bigger for the site, but they're normal).

I raised the date on the TF one so it would be visible when the screen lock and blue bar are there. And I don't know what happened, but it actually uses the LG EDGE font on the phone, so it's got a bit more "high-tech/mechanical" look to it.

The Spidey ones use the Papyrus font from the Flash program, and somewhere in there is where the file size went nuts. On the one where Spidey is on the building, the 2008 gets a bit cut off when the blue bar is present, but the time is more important to me.

Like I said, if someone knows about how I can get the file size smaller and use a jpeg instead of it becoming a bmp using CS3, let me know. This has been the highlight of today for me.

THANKS to you all for your patience and help!!!

just a question but, what size are the pix, did you resize them to 240*400 before importing them into CS3 , or is the program using a hi-res picture and re-sizing on the fly.

this will definitely impact file size
