Is there any way to get data off a dead razr?

I know if I had a storage card I could use that.. but I don't.

I have a razr that was washed, but it has some important pictures on it that I really would like to recover. Is there any sort of... reader that I can used to access the internal memory or anything at all that I can do?

    Thanks.

the data is stored in the lower portion of the keypad side of the phone - you could try hooking the phone up via USB and pulling the files via PhoneTools (I have a phone broken into 17 pieces, no battery, and still retrieved the data this way)

The USB cable provides 3.3V power so the circuit board will function.

USB puts out 3.3v? I thought USB puts out 5v. Oh well, as long as it works.

USB offers 5V. As I understand it, the phone changes that to 3.3v nominal, as per it's own power requirement (3.7 is peak voltage)

As long as the circuit board and USB port are fine, it should work.

    Any luck?

Nope... haven't had any luck with it. It tells me that I need to turn on my phone and I can't get it to turn on .

Are there any other ways of connecting to it? You seem to mention that you can do it without power, but I can't find an option to be able to do it.

Also, put it through the laundry and dryer. The phone is still in one piece... and I did get some digital response out of it when I first turned it on (screen was completely messed up), but I don't know whether I'd bet on the circuit board still being ok...

    STILL trying?

U mentioned storage card, so your stuff is in a removable mem card??? So just get a $10 bux USB adapter from eBay already. They practically give that stuff away!!!

er.. no... I said that I *don't* have a storage card, because if I did... I'd have the files. They are on the phone itself.

Since it went through the wash, some key connections might be corroded.

Best thing is to get yourself a #4 torx bit and physically open the phone, disconnect the screen and keypad data ribbons, and inspect the circuit board.

If it's still good, no visible corrosion, you can transfer that board into another Razr purchased off eBay inexpensively; basically a brain transplant.

I do not think that transfering the motherboard to another body will work as I believe that the motherboard IS the problem. Thing about water damage, is that it only gets worse as time goes by. You actually need to get a torx 6 screw driver and get the motherboard out and try soaking it in a container of acetone for about 30 minutes and then with an old toothbrush, brush the motherboard real good. You will also need to brush the flex cable connectors that connect ot the motherboard and lcd. If that doesn't work... brick... Good luck.

Certainly that's possible. But there are a number of other things possible, too, such as corroded connectors. He won't know until he opens it up and looks.

for the most part, this is true and i'm not trying to get into it too much but in this case though, he is only wanting to retrieve the data/info from the phone. If he wanted to use the phone, yes, he would have to start checking out several more things.
