You could also benefit from reading lessons apparently. Telus mobile email PULLS from your POP3 and then, at its' leisure, pushes to your device. So if I send you an email, it doesn't go to your device. It languishes on a server until it gets checked. This is not push.
The Web 30 and 45 plans only allow Pocket IE browsing on Windows Mobile. =Facebook FAIL, Google Maps FAIL, no RSS. They're either horribly rendered or don't work in pocket IE, and if you use the client app or a decent browser you're charged $8/MB.
Also you can't activesync anymore. So no more exchange support, no more push email to windows mobile, and no more keeping your phone current with your work computer unless you're sitting at your desk.
They've completely disabled the core functionality that Windows Mobile was designed for: mobile outlook. Calendar/Contacts/mail are now kludged on as if it was a 2001 Handheld PC, not a wireless pda. Despite the fact that that's what you bought.
Oh yeah and Web 2.0, AJAX, and Flash are out. Welcome to 2002 again.
Translation: this is a totally different plan that has very little to do with the old $15 plan. It's not "almost the same."
I'm not sure where you are getting your info from, but I'm willing to bet that you are wrong. Firstly, I don't know how they would be able to differentiate the data usage between Opera, Operamini and IE. They all use http protocol, so what's difference? Secondly, it doesn't say just "web browsing", it also says "Application Usage" and explicitly says "Facebook" next to it. So third-party apps are fine. I also think Activesync would work as well with the plans as well, as I don't think Telus can differentiate between the different types of application data. I'm pretty sure we all had the same concerns with the original plan when it came out, but all our concerns had no merit. I think it will be the same with the new plans.
Unless someone can prove me wrong?
you are right, the other guy is either trolling or someone fed him some bs and he is just regurgitating it here. u/l browsing=everything on device(im,mail,3rd party apps)

There seems to be a lot of regurgitating around here, eh?

because there is still a 15$ OPTION for email & im, TELUS is advertising a minimum 30$ voice plan in order to be eligible for hardware subsidy (30 + 15 = 45)
remember, if you are willing to pay 400$ for a device you can have any rate plan and any data plan you want.
There has always been the option of taking a 20$ voice plan and a 25+$ data plan, but everyone asks about the 15$ data plan so they advertise the 30$ minimum.
1 + 1 = 2
30 + 15 = 45
20 + 25 = 45
get it yet?
edit: in response to t-whoever regarding the browser and apps ... if you take two minutes and actually real the FAQ post I posted earlier in this thread, you will see that it explicitly states that with the Email & IM plans, app usage such as browser, facebook, google maps, etc are all billable at 8$/MB, but if you take either Email, IM & Web package (30/40$) they are included. This is not ambiguous or poorly outlined, it is explicitly stated.

No you're thinking of Rogers. Telus's $15 plan started off only on the Pearl, the HTC S720 and the HTC Touch. More recently it has been offered on all data devices.

i remember reading a long time ago in some of the old $15/email+IM threads that TELUS is unable to distinguish data from data (except for tethering).
meaning that using 3rd party apps = mobile browsing
now, what if they do find a way? is that possible?
what if they decide to limit mobile browsing to only "browsing" to the default browsers like what Rogers will be doing. Technically, they could, right? I'm talking about the OLd $15 plan with "mobile browsing" as a bonus, and 3rd party applications are not explicitly stated like in the NEW $30 plan.

given the number of people who signed up secifically to take advantage of that deal, i highly doubt they would commit such douche-baggery.
they technically could, but i serious doubt they would. people signed up with an expectation, and if they were to change that expectation, there would be an uproar that they would have to give in to, so they won't waste time with it.
Not too mention the number of people who actually noted it on their account that the old Unlimited E-mail/IM contains mobile browsing (in some cases, 3 or 4 times on their account).
If they change it, they are in a position where not only would they have to explain it to the customer, but also explain why guarantees were made and then broken. I think I would have no problem having them cancel my contract without any fee, or alternatively, give me a monthly credit of $15 dollars a month in addition to giving me the $30 dollar browsing option.
