We need another GSM provider in Canada!

I've been reading about all the rumours about TELUS going GSM! I came across this article this morning.

    http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/08/q...m-cdma-a-snap/

Honestly, I hope someone at Rogers is reading this! If TELUS goes GSM... I am switching!

How many others in this forum would switch?

If Telus goes GSM then Rogers will probably compete with them.

Telus is Rogers top competition. So I think if Telus went GSM tomorrow and offered this or that and Rogers didn't have it then I wouldn't be jumping ship anytime soon since they will compete with another GSM provider.

Right now they have no GSM competition...

The majority of wireless users could care less what technology they use. Price and coverage are typically the two variables most important to consumers.

Well, we are not talking about most users! I am talking about, anybody under the age of 30 that knows what it means to use a sim card and using an unlocked phone that is not crippled. I am talking about all the business users that use Blackberries i.e you can only get a BB Curve from Rogers, if you want blackberry with a camera and a full qwerty keyboard! Thats huge! You just don't have this freedom with CDMA... Trust me alot of people are aware of this more people then you would think. If Telus went gsm... they would able to provide the same kind of equipment options as Rogers + what they offer now in plans.

Wirelessly posted (from the fingers of SuperCM: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320) Opera 8.65 [en])

CDMA Curve is suppose to be available by or in Spring. I rather have a limited handset selection and an unlimited data plan over a fancy phone I can't afford to use.

    You're welcome.... idiot.

Seems like I have to point out the main facts to all the idiots around here instead of getting into a debate of why people are going to jump ship as soon as Telus goes GSM... a company that doesn't even have any of it's own towers clear across Canada.

Companies that have towers from one end of Canada to the other is ONE.... ROGERS.

Does Bell ? No... Telus... Hell no!

Go back to wetting the bed.

Same here. I still have my doubts though.

Imagine Hofo became a provider. Unlimited Hofo to Hofo and cheaper plans without contracts since we'll just buy unlocked so they don't need to subsidize.

even if TELUS never goes GSM, there's a lot of other GSM operators that probably are going to come into the Canadian market very soon with the spectrum auction coming up...
