This is why I came over to this forum. The Winmo guys / gals are like "yay" a counsumer grade OS that will be easy to use and expandable.

The SK folks are like .. OMFG kill me please kthx!

I just told my friend that "escaped" from his dash to the sidekick (and has been ridiculously happy since) and doom and dread was his forecast as well.

It might not be all THAT bad.. they may just open up the OS (unlockable, same on ever platform) and add programs that can be removed later

I read that thread and its like night and day. Danger got greedy. They probably want to be publically traded and feel they deserve a couple more homes and 30 more cars in the Valley.

Well the deal they have with tmobile probably isn't that great and I would think that they might actually be suffering (cash wise) because they are not only supporting end user software, but back end software as well, which makes the OS upgrade process that much trickier.

They probably welcomed this as it will probably change their entire structure and take a lot of the burden off of them and put it onto Microsoft's HUGE shoulders.

Now that being said, I wonder how that meeting is going (went) about whether to turn the Danger servers off in a year or so or work around them.

This was very unexpected. I am interested to see what microsoft does with this. I'd rather reserve my judgment instead of already slamming microsoft

Danger may have never made money. They would have either been acquired or gone out of business. If neither TMo nor Google wanted Danger, Microsoft may have been their only choice. The person in charge of Google's Android initiative had been Danger's CEO at 1 time.

The Sidekick design has grown stale. The mobile industry has passed Danger by.

My Six Degrees of Separation of Danger:

    (1) I used to live 2 blocks from Danger in Palo Alto (they are directly across the street from Fry's Electonics)
    (2) Their network engineer is my ex-boss from 10 years ago at a major ISP nearby
    (3) Same ex-boss is my sisters ex-boyfriend
    (4) Old co-worker from the next job after above ex-boss is one of the Danger's co-founders.
    (5) I am an ex Microsoft employee, and I was 5 seconds from applying at Danger for the position my ex-boss eventually got.
    (6) Internet Engineering in the Bay Area is the most incestuous career in the USA!

I Knew they were gonna get bought out by someone, but i thought it would be Google.
i have been following how they have been running out of cash and falling behind against other cell phones.
Microsoft is smart to buy out a excellent software like Danger OS
and in a way we had an idea something was up when we all saw that video of the microsoft touch table, with Bill Gates and there was a Hiptop3 on the touch table. Hmmm yup something was up...

I think Microsoft should + will explore the software and learn from it to take there mobile to the next level of simplicity...
I think we will see updates with the Hiptop like video stream ect... maybe even touch screen..
But i really think they will run it independent, just like now but with positive influences...
its up to them now to make it happen,
they now have a stronger hand against Android

psh.. it's like that in most tech circles. Most people I know with 10+ whatever years experience have like 5 companies that they rotate through!
