Yes bunk is right. When you reach the 140 limit it just doesn't even let you continue on typing. Also, when you receive a sms from someone on rogers that is longer than 140 it gets cut in a way that makes it difficult to read.
Is the 20 character difference really that big of a deal? I guess to each their own! I agree on the MMS though. I am on Telus and it pisses me off that I have unlimited SMS/MMS messaging but Telus freakin disables it on me! I used to think it was a ploy to get you to use more data, but obviously with unlimited data that isn't the case anymore. I wonder if newer PDA's will get this feature back.

i don't think the 20 character is what really makes the difference
i think we feel the same way that it doesn't let us go on and string 2,3,4 messages at one go...doesn't matter if we are charged for 2,3,4 but being able to send them in one string (like an e-mail i guess) makes the difference...
its frustrating to see: "field full" lol
rogers lets us type up to 6 sms in one and sends it off together where at telus i type 140 chars and then send, then open up a new sms, type up the remainder of the msg and then send again

correct me if im wrong
Oh I didn't know that you could string messages together unless you hacked your phone. Interesting. Is this the case on all rogers cells or just smartphones?
Certainly much better value than former Rip Off data prices; not sufficient though to sway me when you consider these better plans l hold.
Bell
Unlimited Data on Device on Prepaid for $7.oo month with the HTC Touch with an exploit
Unlimited Data on Device with 300 min, unlimited evenings/weekends, CD, VM, unlimited text, unlimited Bell Mobility local all for $22.50 including SAF,911 & taxes again on the Touch
Telus
Unlimited Data on Device for $15.oo with the HTC p4000.
Unlimited Data on Device, Unlimited WiFi Hotspots & Unlimited Tethering anywhere in Canada & US for $100.oo again with the HTC p4000.
Secret Unlimited Data plan on the Treo 700wx.
Fido
2 Unlimited Datas on Device & Tethering anywhere in Canada for $50.oo each.
Today Fido renewed one for another 3 years with a $10.oo credit each month after telling me l had used 9 gigs on one plan recently.
Rogers still has aways to go!
Holy cow dude, I hope that there is more than one of you!
Otherwise perhaps there is a support group or something

i am pretty sure it works on all rogers phones and even on unlocked, unbranded phones i have used on rogers such as my n73 and even my new samsung u600
it is a carrier + manufacturer issue when it comes to telus and bb is what i hear at least

all rogers phones
My K850, or most SE's will do 10.. 10 SMS of 160 characters each.. y up.. 1600 characters....
In case you didn't know -- I had three phones on Rogers, then I switched one of them away from Rogers. The next one was about to go if the 3G BlackBerry came out without a reduction in BlackBerry plans.
Anyway, quick coverage of background since everybody follows treatz well (many who weren't around when I was three years ago). :-) Anyway, it all started with my RogersPetition.com started after I paid $1000 of data overages over a period of three months about three years ago. (Rogers probably didn't blink at RogersPetition, but it raised BBF/HoFo forum awareness at the time when I had that in my forum signature). At the time, I had no choice to step up to a bigger data plan. The biggest plan Rogers had was the 25MB data plan, and I couldn't step up to a 50MB plan (25MB cost $60 but going to 50MB cost well over $200). Dozens of people complained loudly about ridiculous data overages, but still constituted a tiny minority of subscribers. Eventually, this was eventually solved when Rogers introduced the 100MB plan (now 200MB), and I was willing to pay a little more (though I delayed switching to it until I could no longer ration my data usage, then switched to it a few months after it came out). That was in an era when Bell and Telus was charging $100 for their big BlackBerry plans. I wanted the freedom of choice to use more than 25MB in a BlackBerry, even if I had to pay a little extra. So Rogers bought some time with that move.
However, late 2007, in the new age of $15 BlackBerry plans by Telus/Rogers/Bell, the $100 plan created new dissatisfaction, but I let it go by the argument that BlackBerry did not come in a 3G model yet, so I was going to give Rogers till the 3G BlackBerry before the 'fixed' the BlackBerry plans.
Well, if the new price announcement is correct, then Rogers has yet another stay of execution from me, and I may actually get two BlackBerry plans instead of one - we have a second BlackBerry here, on a generic data plan (of the $20 Communicate Pack) that has never had an overage beyond 5MB. While mine, often goes to about 75-100MB per month. But now both can be on the same BlackBerry plan, thanks to this flexible tiered pricing structure. It could be better, and I hate the 3-year DECF (but if it's only $100, then I will accept a 3 year contract if there's no choice).
Anyway, I am sure this will definitely help data sales too -- this is now finally more attractive (albiet still expensive to many) to the mass consumer...
Man I'm SOOO confused with all this shuffling around! THe K850i and vision fits my personal lifestyle so well! However I seriously miss the speed and calendaring on my BB Pearl. So I'm now stuck on deciding again when I can upgrade on March 21st.
Does these plans ... ($50 - 50MB to 200MB BIS/BES ~ Tier 3 for example); where the 200MB in this example relate not just to Email but also to MDS applications on BES or for Facebook or other RIM made apps for BIS?!
With OS 4.5 and Docs2Go being imminent for editing office documents natively; along with HTML based email (not bloated like on WinMobile platform) I'm wondering just how much an increase of data these HTML emails and attachments will spike the average 500 Emails/Day (where 200 have attachments or are HTML-based)? Sure I know it can be changed but does this include MDS based cloud applications through the MDS Browser??

BlackBerry 9900 = 384x288, 316 Xscale (may be released with a 624), EDGE, OS 5.0.0
2 questions: I've seen the same specs (although I don't agree with RIMs decision to go with Xscale again not as power efficient but easest for code compatibility).
1> Does any of these new rumored BlackBerry's have 2 cameras (Curve camera & vga for video calling)?? I'd like to use Video Calling and I'd wouldn't need the K850i any longer.
does anyone know if you already have a $65 for 1GB data plan, will u stay at that or get moved to the new data plans or they will need you to sign a 3 year contract to be able to move to new data structure
$7 unlimited mobile browsing users on non rogers phones won't see charges until after these new data plans are in effect.
then they will be charged based on these tiers.
so all these people saying they haven't been charged for browsing on opera mini, etc won't see it until these data charges are official.
i think someone posted something along the lines that rogers doesn't have the billing sorted out for $7 u/l browsing until mid march.. which coincides with these new data plans.

ALL OLD PLANS GRANDFATHERED
ALL PLANS WILL NOT CONFLICT WITH $20 COMM PACK
Discontinued Plans
-------------------
Blackberry Voice & Data
WM Voice & Data
PC Card Plan
Unlim Data for 3Months Promotion
I see from this list almost every combination a consumer would need to make a decision... but one. What options will exist for constomers with Rogers non-PDA, non-WM, non-BB devices who want to use 3rd party apps like Google Maps and Opera Mini which are excluded from the $7 unlimited on-device browsing package?
Those of us who still have our grandfathered mobile internet plans (5MB or 10MB variations) at least have those to cling to until all of the questions are answered in a couple of months, but what of new customers of "regular" phones who want something a more than just wap usage starting now or in March? I understand that the mobile internet packages have all been discontinued and are no longer available. So from a CS and sales perspective are these customers going to be lumped into the "non-Rogers/WM/Tethering" grouping when they call in to inquire as to their options? Or if not that, then what? What is being offered today for these users?

First post says all old plans will be grandfathered. So if you do nothing you will just stay on the 1gb/$65 plan.
