Very interesting. There are some aspects that I, as a board member concerned more with ARPU and general financial loss/gain, would probably want to reject. For instance, everyone starting @ the $15 mark...I'm not too sure about that. Right now for corporate clients, access to BES is granted at the $60 mark, many corporate users don't appear to have a problem with this. That's a $45 loss right there, assuming they don't go over the 10mb, which, believe it or not HoFo'ers, is the case for many, many people.
It might be better for the company to allow BES at the $50 mark, for example forcing the cherished corporate types to spend more on average.
I'm just saying that from Rogers' point of view, some of this might seem a little TOO generous.
I can definitely see a lot of changes to this prior to launch, though either way, it's a step in the right direction. I personally am liking the MTM WM/non-Rogers/tethering plans. I really hope most of this pans out the way you say, O_ssie.
while I agree with you that the board may look at those numbers in their own way.... they also realize that Rogers is not the only company in canada. They are not just looking at their own arpu loss they are also looking at the loss of clients to other companies like telus if they don't adjust.
Even at these new prices (while better for us that are getting screwd by rogers) still is not as attractive as 30$ unlimited data for pda or BB. No telus sub is going to see these new plans and jump over to Rogers. BUT it is an excellent move in the right direction, heavily needed for Rogers to stay competitive, and probably just enough to keep their clients on board for now.
PS, O_ssie, great stuff, and I think using hofo for a 'free focus group' is a great idea
My Plans x2 (Fido): $67 unlim w 2gig & VPk (-$10credits.each) = $57+tax
My guess is that they are preparing for the future with expectations of higher data usage; probably for the days of HSDPA (Vision) Blackberry's. So thoughts on Business and Corporate? Wouldn't it re-rate a very large group of corporate customers?
Or they may adjust and start using more data, i.e. download full messages and attachments, browse full html sites, etc... While corporate accounts are nice and all, many employees still don't have free reign to abuse their company phones, as I'm certain you'll get a visit from your manager if rack up a 1000$ data bill.
We have gotten approval to release preliminary info - mainly because it actually helps us answer questions that customers are going to ask when its actually released. As for the competition reading this: what r they gonna do: increase their prices to match ours!?!?! We would hate to see that happen
Its quite funny you mention that, since Rogers was the one who started the whole "unlimited" with Personal Email for BlackBerry. Everything thats been done by the competition has been in response to that

Yes you're right...Rogers had the initial concept but the Telus plan that came out a week later blew Rogers away. The 2 plans didn't compare. But kudos to Rogers to launching it. I was actually contemplating porting for that plan. Boy am I glad I didn't!

Absolutely. Although IIRC, Telus offers BES starting with their $25/month plan. It's still a headache to explain to customers getting blackberries that they have to pay extra fees on Rogers for less. I can't blame the majority of my clients who moved to Telus. (I do IT work for a number of companies, and that involves maintaining their BBs and PDAs.)
Let's get some decent roaming rates too. Even $5/mb would be better than nothing.
if it done via POP3/IMAP then yes, it will be included. If its done through BES or any other way then no, it would use up data
So would this be done the same way for non-rogers certified phones?
Thanks
bump...... how does the unlimited pop3/imap mail work with non-rogers certified phones? I guess this is basically the same as what Varialflip is asking...

Rogers historically has never come up with anything innovative with out being forced to do it by the competition. They still can’t match the competition by not introducing a normal unlimited data plan.

Hopefully the "New" competition is GSM and they offer unlimited then and apparently ONLY then will Rogers do the right thing, pathetic!!!!!!
At least these new plans don't get you from behind as bad as the old ones do but still not what THE REST OF THE WORLD has
So the unlimited Pop 3 (for non rogers phones / wmd etc..) If i have my own domain. myname@myname.com will this qualify for unlimited email? or am I pooched?

I read somewhere that the e-mails have to go through gmail, yahoo, hotmail etc. to qualify for unlimited e-mail.

from looks of it, as long as you are using pop3 its unlimited. but those details could change on launch date. I also hope that using ur own domain pop3 works with unlim! would b a pretty sweet deal =)
