Can a jailbroken iphone be used as pre-paid (gophone)?

Anyone? I'm thinking of getting another iPhone, refurbished, jailbreaking and using it with a prepaid number. Does this work?

Really? I am getting an iPhone today and am doing the Ziphone "Do It All", but am not going to really be using the phone part of the device because I do not want a 2 year plan with AT&T.

So I can just go buy one of the GoPhones from AT&T and pop in the SIM card from it into the iPhone and use it as a Pay As You Go?

I would get the benefit of the phone, but probably not the Edge network?

u just need to get a data plan on the prepaid...there are ways to get it so you can use the edge as well....

Can you explain how to do this. This is really why I was buying the iPhone... to use the Edge part when I am not near my Wifi. Just really didn't want to be locked down into a 2 year contract.

If I can use the GoPhone part and Edge that would really make my day.

there isnt an unlimited package for the go phone....so it wouldnt be a good idea to go that route...u would be better off just sittin on the gophone w/o edge just so you dont incur those charges

So I can use GoPhone "Pay As You Go" or "Pick Your Plan" with the iPhone in order to use the phone part of my iPhone? But there isn't a real way to get the Data Plan? I am confused a bit.

Pick your plan has an unlimited data option. Pay as you go only has 1mb or 5mb data options ($5 and $10 respectively). Pick your plan, however, has to be tied with a credit/debit card on auto-pay and it is taken out at the beginning of your month, depending on the day you sign up. Pick your plan has the 1mb, 5mb options as well as 10mb for $15 and unlimited for $20.

You can do pay-as-you-go data on either option, but trust me from experience, it goes quickly just from little data pulls here and there (weather, email, not sure what else but my cents would just randomly tick away). Wouldn't do the pay-as-you-go option unless you're willing to lose your latest refill quickly.

Well, I can say that the Pay As You Go works fine on the iPhone... so far. In a few days I might switch over to the Pick Your Plan and get the $20.00 Unlimited Data plan.
