Hey everybody. First time post, quickly becoming a phone-a-phile. I currently have a Sony Ericsson w710c which I am completely disgusted with. What a disgrace of a phone. Anyway my contract with TMobile is up soon and I've been thinking about upgrading phones and possibly change carriers. I get 6% off on a plan and special deals on phones through work so I was thinking about this guy.
Things that are important to me.
1. Large colorful screen.
2. Good camera. 2MP is enough but I want good quality pics.
3. A decent music player.
4. 4GB of storage.
5. Bluetooth syncing for calender and contacts.
6. Bluetooth object pushing.
There are a few reasons why I'm weary of this.
1. Is the speed still acceptable with a full 4GB card?
2. I heard some providers only allow their bluetooth object push to transfer multimedia files. I don't like that. I always transfer pdf, word, etc to my current phone.
3. I really doubt I'll ever use the mobile TV feature. I don't want to pay for it and it's not available in my area anyway. I think I may be paying for a feature I don't need. Already made that mistake on my w710c. It really bothers me that this is a pay service. Damn politics. I bought a phone in Japan for 1 penny and canceled my plan for $40. It had a TV tuner that worked perfect when I came back to the US and this was like 4 years ago.
4. The menus are ugly. Can they be skinned? I'm pretty good at photoshop and fairly tech savy, so I'd like to do it myself if possible. Bitpim?
Another big thing keeping me from getting this is the provider. TMobile was good to me and they have a plan that is perfect, but I don't like their phones. A guy I work with who has verizon says his internet usage comes out of his minutes and he doubles his phone as a modem frequently, especially nights and weekends cause it's free. Is this true? I can't find a place on verizon's website that says this. It says "Automatic access to the mobile internet with Mobile Web 2.0 at $1.99/MB." Also am I crazy or is their only texting plan unlimited? I really dont use more than 100/month and don't want to pay $20/month for that.
Thanks everyone.
the screen is large and beautiful.
the camera is 1.3 mp but it takes a very sharp picture that satys sharp when enlarged
the speed with a 4 gig card is as fast as with a 1 gig so no problem there.
Im very pleased with the music player on mine and use bluetooth stereo frequently
I cant help you on the menus and you wont be able to push as much on Verizon as you are used to but you can do the calendar. I use a free verizon program called "back up assistant for calendars. it updates automatically once a day
you wont find the thing about the modem on nights and weekends 1 because they dont want you to know and 2 heprobably has Americas choice and not the new "nationwide plan"
internet useage using minutes is no longer an option with verizon since eliminating the Americas choice plans. they went to kb.
I got the "vcast pak" that gives me unlimited data usage 24/7 and this includes mobil web and all data usage as well as access to all the useless(to me) vcast vids like youtube, local news, etc. its $15
there is more than 1 texting package. before going to the family select plan I had a plan on my phone and kids phones with 500 non m-m for $10 plus unlimited m-m and had one on my wifes with 250 non m-m for $5.
honestly if you are happy with your reception and plan you may not be happy with verizon but they have awesome reception in most areas they serve, their cs is above par, especially at problem resolution, and the LG9400 is by far THE best reception phone Ive had since they did away with 3 watt analog phones. I never worry about dropping a call or reception with it.
Im very pleased with the reliability, durability, sound and graphics quality of my 9400 ad ,as I wrote on phonesscoop reviews " everything it is supposed to do it does right without a hitch".
I do use the tv feature and again using bluetooth with it is another nice feature to me.
I use my Jabra 8010 to listen to the tv while driving for stuff like the news, Jay Leno, Mencia ,etc. it beats the snot out of the same 6 songs or someones opinion of how Im supposed to think over and over and over on the radio.
hope this helps.
btw verizon has a 30 day "test drive" policy. if you switch and dont like it you can drop their service and owe nothing except for any games or ringtones you download. nothing for minutes used or access. the whole number porting thing included
the United States is the land of the FREE because of the BRAVE!! Thank You to all who serve or have served and their families in the United States armed services!! Your sacrifices are NOT in vain may God continue to bless America
For God so loves YOU, He gave His only Son....John 3:16
