I know this is an older post but I cant resist correcting people, sorry.Originally posted by Gaunt911
it is similar to an ISDN line.
it is dependant on the speed of the local LAN. (Wi Fi 802.11b or 802.11g)
e.g. my ISP's ADSL is 3MBps because it is a 3MB Siemens modem.
cable modems may be 512kbps up to a theoretical 8MBps?
functionally cable and ADSL offer similar speeds depending on your service provider and local area equipment.
so if the local provider is offering a T3 it is of course faster than a T1.. (144kbps I believe)
a t1 is 1.5mbit each way.
Dsl can do up to 8mbit down 1mbit up, and the speed goes by what your dsl account is set to, the modem doesnt come in different 'speeds'.
I dont know how fast cable goes up to but it goes past 10mbit since mine is 10mbit down / 1mbit up (dont argue with me, it is, I know for a fact).
a t3 is 45mbit I think.
also, there is a different between MB and mb. MB is MegaByte, which is mostly used for storage figures. mb is MegaBit, which is used in bandwidth. Capital B = Byte, lowercase = bit.

I am confused about what to do and how much it will cost to get internet access (Nokia 3650 via bluetooth, IPAQ 2210->Fujitsu 720).
In the past, I paid $19.99/mo for unlim internet, which worked o.k. but was ultimately too expensive.
I read some posts saying that WAP should be free with my $39.99 plan. I tried to access a WAP site and got the response that I need t-zones to do that.
Others state that you can access the internet (meaning any website) via t-zones for $5/month which would be acceptable. (I do not need VPN and corporate email access).
So, is it true that I can get internet access (unlim) for $5/month and what are the settings.
Sorry, if this was discussed in detail in some thread already.
Any help is appreciated.
I'd like to know this too. I'm switching over from Verizon and I'll be using an MPx220 smartphone. Do I need the $19.99 plan to do everything? (email, internet, messaging) I hope I can get away with the basic t-zones $4.99 plan.Originally posted by ydobon

A little off topic, but something other may be experiencing. I got the A630 the first day it was out. WAP works. Reqwireless's Webviewer midlet works. No other midlets will work. I got the phone so I can telnet into my home computer and irc or whatever. After going around and around with tmobile, they finally admitted to having disabled all socket support except for HTTP sockets in the phone's firmware. If anyone is considering buying an A630 so they can do neat stuff via midlets, DON'T DO IT. If anyone can come up with a solution to this problem, or has any questions, please reply to this, maybe we can work through a solution to this crap deal.

Heinrich: the $29.99 plan is if you don't have a voice plan, just data. The unlimited mobile internet is $19.99 as an add-on to an existing voice plan.
qqtorqq: If they disabled non-port 80 socket support in the firmware, then you have to wonder two things: can't this be fixed with some firmware tweaking and what happens when you get the $19.99 mobile internet plan? Do they magically enable these ports?
1) Yes, it should be fixable with firmware, but I haven't seen any firmware floating around for the A630 yet.
2) The problem isn't with ports being closed (port 80 works just fine for me with the 4.99 plan). There are 6 types of sockets that the phone should support. When a midlet wants to access the HTTP type socket, the phone allows it to. When a midlet tries any of the 5 other types, the phone gives the midlet a java.lang.security.exception, because tmo had these 5 other sockets disabled in the firmware. A very interesting note: I tried IM+ Trial yesterday, and it worked perfectly.. I don't know what type of socket it uses, maybe HTTP for mass compatibility, but its the only midlet other than webviewer that has been able to use the network so far.

does anyone know if yahoo's mail or gmail require t-zones pro or will it run on t-zone's unlimited $4.99 plan?

Notice a pattern in my preference in phones? LOL
Gmail will currently work with the $4.99 plan, but only because pop3 is free for a limited time. You will have to pay yahoo a yearly fee for pop3 mailbox access, but once you do, yahoo mail will also work with the $4.99 plan.
