How is this method peformed? And what tools are the eBay sellers that claim to "hard cable" unlock Sidekick 3's/LX's/SLIDE's using?

Apparently, this guy is claiming to have either written or obtained a pre-written CUSTOM software for the sidekick. I don't honestly know if I believe it. Once you "unlock" a sidekick you can't use the internet or messengers. Seems a waste.

It's been demonstrated that Unlocked T-Mobile Sidekicks can actually work on the Fido/Danger network for data by simply changing the NETWORK APN settings.

Yea but danger caught on to that and changed any access from fidos apn on anything after the hiptop2.

It still works for plenty of people.

There are still folks with LX's with working data using danger.fido.ca

I'm very familiar with that website.
It is still possible to use Fido's unlimited Hiptop data plan on a hard cable unlocked T-Mobile branded Sidekick.

Only catch is, the service is on-and-off I hear.

It works majority of the time. But sometimes during the evening you may not get service.

The Sidekick is best left locked to T-Mobile (unless you're traveling overseas and want to use it there) as there's little reason to unlock it since it loses most of it's functionality. Even by using Fido's service, it's hit or miss service.

tmobile doesnt unlock sidekicks anymore,they stopped doing it when the sidekick 2 was still aroound (ages ago).

Dude, people NEVER get it. There will always be some tool arguing that it CAN be unlocked and still use the data package, and always some tool asking how to put ringtones on it. Always.

to clarify what has been said, you cannot unlock it for data on other networks, so it works all the time.

I have unlocked hundreds (through http://www.globalunlock.com/sidekick.htm) and once unlocked the phone will make and recieve calls and you will be able to make and recieve text messages. Data will not work.

PHONE CAN BE UNLOCKED FOR PHONE AND TEXT
DATA WILL NOT WORK
