I'm surprised that Rogers aren't making their plans significantly cheaper when the other competitors are starting to enter the market during summer 2008. In fact, they're raising their prices for the summer. What exactly are they thinking?
I ain't renewing my contract (even though I'm positive my 3 yr term expired at least 6 months ago). I'm waiting for something better to come up.
holy crap, guy! how fast do you think things are gonna happen? the auction is in may, competition is NOT gonna come in this summer. do you have any idea how much it actually takes to run a cel company? forget the towers and network (which is using existing company's stuff) there's employees, hardware, store fronts/delivering to department stores (like koodo) service offerings, & so much more. why would all 30 POTENTIAL bidders set all that up, then get outbid and be left with all that? early 2009 minimum.
Yep, it'll be 2009 or 2010 before any new competition...and let's HOPE that it's a national provider when it happens.
Line 1: (Mobilicity) BTS 25 on PAC - Unlimited local talk/text/data @ $23/month Line 2: (Wind) Irresistible35 - Unlimited everything @ $35/month Line 3: (Wind) Holiday Miracle - Unlimited everything @ $40/month Line 4: (Fido) Retention - Unlimited North America talk & text @ $50/month Line 5: (Wind) All in the Family Laptop - Unlimited data @ $15/month
All my posts are my own opinion only and not necessarily that of any of my employers, past or present.
If it's another Canadian company they will just join the oligipoly anyway and we will see no changes. If the government lifts it's foreign ownership policy we will see competition an changes. Sadly I don't see this happening.
Clearly you're forgetting that up until now you have not been able to add the $20 pack to BB/WM devices. They have FINALLY fixed that problem by offering the new $15 value pack that does not conflict with BB/WM data plans.
This is a very good thing and a long time coming.
I think I've gotta call BS on this one. I've got the touch, and have added the $20 pack to it, and it's WinMo. I want the unlimited surfing, but because "Only business users use WinMo" I can't have a surfing plan. To surf the real web, not that WAP crap.
Phone History
Nokia 6160 -> Nokia 8260 -> Siemens M46 -> Motorola V300 -> HP iPAQ 6955 -> HTC Touch -> iPhone 3G 16GB Black -> HTC Google Nexus One -> Samsung Galaxy S Captivate -> Samsung Galaxy Tab -> Dell Streak -> Samsung Galaxy S Infuse 4G -> HTC Sensation 4G -> Galaxy Nexus
You can surf HTML web sites with the unlimited on device browsing but ONLY if you use the Rogers browser of which does not exist in the data devices since WM has internet explorer.

Sorry, I may not have been totally clear with my little mini rant. This whole situation bothers me almost to the point of having a stroke....
I understand all the crappy little restrictions they're putting in. I just hate it. I bought a WinMo phone for all the other things it can do. I wanted to replace my mp3 player, camera, pda, and have one magical do it all device. Now I have one. But to rogers that means that I'm <SARCASM>quite obviously</SARCASM>a business user, so I have to pay insane rates for mobile web and email.
It's things like this that make me hate capitalism. What about providing the service? I am willing to pay a reasonable amount to use the service they sell me, and the device I own on that service. I'm paying for the service, let me use it the way I want to use it. The technology is there, and it is possible. They're inventing new technology to prevent you from using it, just to squeeze more money out of you.
I guess this is actually the mini rant... the last one was more of a technical comment....
Not to mention that with the iPhone confirmed by Ted himeslf today, there's probably going to be some sort of borderline-reasonable data plan for it, but not available to anyone else with other phones.
(Calm down fanboys, the stupid iPhone won't be here until late-November, Early December; but it is going to be the 3G version.)
I phoned twice today and neither rep had any idea about these plans existing, so are you guys sure that they are definitely going to be available May 6th or VEYR soon after? My billing cycle starts ont he 11th of every month, so I would like to add that $15 value pack to my account for when my May cycle starts rather than going through the whole "half of the month is in this pack, and the other half is in that pack" sort of thing, and I also don't want to wait until June either. I mean, I'm only saving $1, but I am gaining all those extra text messages and video/picture messages, so I would really like to make sure that these will definitel ybe available after May 6th and hopefully before may 11th!
