$190 for 100 minutes? That's only 5% off the pay per use rate of $2/minute. Why even bother...
Even the starting US Roaming option ($40, 60 mins) gives 60% off the pay per use rate ($1.70/min). You'd think the international options would give something more than 5% off lol
I never thought I'd be "defending" the US Roaming options...
It's just named a smartphone pack. I don't see why anyones confused lol. It means it's compatible with smartphones that have data plans. Obviously those people without smartphones will get the OTHER $15 pack. (excpet for the hofo'ers/techies who use unlocked phones and cannot benefit from the surfing option)
I think the confusion is pretty easy to understand. They call it a "Smartphone Value Pack".. any reasonable person might conclude that it's only for Smartphones, but maybe I'm crazy.
And the other $15 pack isn't the same.. it includes far fewer text messages...

Okay, you should look up some more countries there. The "pay per use" rate is NOT $2 for international roaming, that is the pay per use rate for specific countries. You're not charged the same for every country you roam in exactly the same rate. Each country can be different as they charge Rogers a different rate for you to roam. So while you're in a country that DOES charge $2 per minute to roam, yes, it is not a very good deal. But for other countries that charge you $6 per minute to roam, then this IS a very good deal!
And here's just some examples of what we would pay to roam in some other countries:
Ireland - $2 per minute
Australia - $2 per minute
(so far so good, right?)
Greece - $2.50 per minute
Egypt - $3.50 per minute
Columbia - $3.50 per minute
Turkey - $4 per minute
Belarus - $6 per minute
So yeah, if you're in a country that only chares you $2 per minute to roam, then yes, this Rogers deal isn't very good at all. If you're Roaming in Belarus or another country that charges a whopping $6 per minute, then yes, I think Rogers offers an EXCELLENT deal in THAT situation! As always, it depends on where you're going and what you're planning on doing.

The international roaming option only works in specific countries. It certainly does not work in Egypt, Columbia, Turkey or Belarus. It does not apply to ANY country with the $6/min rate.
The highest priced country in which the feature actually applies is Malta at $4/minute. So yes, for all those people that travel to Malta, it's a better deal. For the vast majority of people who travel to the other countries like UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, etc. it's a bad deal. That was my point.
What do you mean the international Roaming option only works in specific countries? Doesn't it work everywhere Rogers has a Roaming Agreement with the country? If not, could you give us a link to the plan you are mentioning (I couldn't find it) and does it list which countries the plan add on does and doesn't work in? Because if they don't mention the coutnries that it does and doesn't work in, then people are just going to assume that that plan add on works in ANY international country that Rogers phones work in (as I assumed) so if they dont have that clarification, they really should! could you post the link please? Thanks!
EDIT: Oh yeah, WHY wouldn't this plan work in Egypt, Columbia or Turkey? Those countries are $3.50 or $4, and you said the highest price the add on worked in was Malta, and you said Malta is $4, so why would the plan plan add on not work in These three countries, but would work in Malta? They're the same price or slightly less than malta.

I don't have a link, but if you check the first post of this thread the poster clearly mentions which countries are covered by each option. There are 2 separate options which cover 2 separate groups of countries and 1 option for the UK only.
As for the logic of allowing the option for Malta but not other cheaper countries, who knows.. that's Rogers for ya
apparently the policy was changed.. Looks like the 33% discount still stands! good news I guess.. I'll make sure tmrw
i tried to change my $11 Communicate Value pack to the new and improved $11 Value pack, but when the CSR finally found it, he says the 33% discount doesn't exist...
is it maybe because i have the grandfathered $10/10mb plan that the system doesn't think im eligible because i have a discontinued feature that made me eligible last time?
i'm not willing to lose my $3.33 for the features gained... especially since rogers wants to drag their heels on data.
So I called into Rogers to switch over to the new $11 Value Pack. I originally had the $11 Every Call package, so for the same price, the new package would have enhanced voicemail and 125 text messages. He asked me if it was the "communicate" value pack, and I said no, it's the new one just called "value pack" (way to add confusion, Rogers).
The switch was instantaneous. I just went now onto my account page and noticed two things: It now says I have the "Communicate Value Pack", and it says the 33% discount is to be removed today (9/5/2008).
Should I be worried that I no longer get the 33% discount, or that they gave me the wrong package? The only other essential I have is MobileMail, so the extra text messages may be worth it, even if I loose the 33% (is it 33% of the $3 MobileMail only?). Is there a way to verify that I have the right value pack now?
I think I got it sorted. I tested the WhoCalled thing, and when it didn't work, could tell I was on the old Communicate package. Just called in again and this time directed the rep to the website so he knew exactly what the plan was and was able to switch it over.
They really make it complicated by having three different plans, all for $11 (the new one, with no name, the old Communicate one and the old Every Call one).
I'm sure the profit they make on these extras, though, more than make up for the service calls required to get the right plan LOL
the 33% discount does apply to the value packs. but it has to be applied correctly..
Step 1: They have to remove your old pack completely off the account
Step 2: SAVE
Step 3: Go to the Discount Window and delete the 33% discount out of the list (would be listed as expired, but not deleted)
Step 4: SAVE
Step 5: Add the value pack (whichever) with the description "VALUE PACK", not "communicate value package"
Step 6: SAVE
Reminder: only these features get the 33% discount
Radio on Demand
Video on Demand
Radio on Demand & Video on Demand
Mobile TV
Caller Ring Trax
$4 International Text Messaging Plan
$7 International Text Messaging Plan
Call Forwarding
Full Detailed Billing
Yeah, they've got it right now. It now says "$11 Value Pack" and not "Communicate Value Pack". The 125 text messages also shows in the services, and I tested the enhanced voicemail and the WhoCalled works.
And seeing as I don't have any of those other services, the 33% discount doesn't apply.
So it's all working fine now... except they keep billing me for cable tv packages I cancelled, and I keep having to call in and get it reversed... but that's a different story (and different forum) LOL
I'm currently on the $11 communicate value pack but I want to go to the new $15 value pack. Can I not just do it online? Or would I risk losing some of the current credits that I have on my account? I have a credit right now for caller ID and a couple other monthly credits to offset the cost of the plan but I dont want to lose those.

Even though you are a HAB fan, I'll still help you
I would just call in to Rogers and get it done through them, who knows they might give you some other credits if you change stuff. Last time I did what you're asking, they gave me the new feature free from 3 months plus I still had the credit for the value of the old plan.
