Any solution? A930 DUN gets redirected to https://dunsp.vzw.com/, but A870 works!

    Hi there,

I have been reading through several threads (http://verizonwireless.howardforums....php?p=10909231, http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=938352, http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=10994219) and have followed a lot of the goings-on in the past few weeks with regards to the DUN troubles.

I have a Samsung A930, and the same thing has happened, where I get redirected to https://www.dunsp.vzw.com after I successfully dial up and connect as I normally would. I thought this might be a network-wide thing (in the St. Louis area here), but I tried on the Samsung A870, and that worked! So it must be something phone-specific, I guess.

Anyway, I have read several reports of people managing to make changes on their particular phones to re-enable the DUN, but I haven't been able to find anybody with success on the A930.

    Here's what I have tried:

Using QPST, under Service Programming, I tried following the steps outlined here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=938352. This didn't work, as the "Tethered NAI" wouldn't stick when I would write it to the phone.

I have tried opening up the nvr_factory file in a hex editor and searched for references to @vzw3g.com or @dun.vzw3g.com, but I couldn't find anything.

I also tried using PSTLite, and using the A950 model/template, I went to the "Setting" area, then under "Feature," and changed the DUN option from 1X&EVDO DUN to 1XDUN.

None of these three things have worked. I still can connect, but every web attempt is intercepted, and I'm brought to the VZW subscription page.

Again, initially I would assume it's the network, but after seeing it work with an A870, I've got to think there's hope for my A930. Has anybody managed to get the A930 working, or would anyone have any suggestions as far as any other methods I can try?

    Thanks!

Well, a bit of an update...

Using PST Lite, I have somehow managed to enable DUN, where it works again. Unfortunately, I don't know exactly what it was that I changed that fixed it, but it was under the "IS-95/1x_DATA" section for my phone.

And although it's working, it's definitely not perfect. The A930 will only dial up successfully if I force it into CDMA mode. Also, oddly enough, no EVDO services work even when the phone is back in its original state -- that is, in hybrid mode. This isn't a huge deal to me, because it just means that my MMS messages are a little slow in moving, as they are only going over the 1X network.

One other quirk, though, is that the 1X mode is sketchy. Sometimes, to send or receive, say, a picture message, it takes several attempts at sending it before the phone will actually start transmitting the message (either uploading or downloading). It seems to eventually work, though, if I'm persistent enough.

So anyway, that's where things stand now. I backed up my original phone settings, so think I can always revert back to the working 1X/EVDO services but with broken DUN. It's a shame that I can't have EVERYTHING -- that is, using EVDO for messaging (or even reliable 1X, for that matter) and 1X for DUN, but it is nice to know that DUN over the A930 is still possible. I wish I knew exactly what altered setting "threw the switch," for both enabling DUN and crippling the other data, but maybe I'll be able to narrow it down.

If anybody has had any similar results, feel free to chime in!
