nice flip down![]()
Sorry guys, I did the photo unboxing and saw this thread. So I think I'd better add the photos in the thread and add more into it.![]()
Another low end Sony Ericsson Walkman phone. The music phone series really wanted to get all the music market segments from very low end to the very high end. Both being low end Walkman phones, this W350 is selling at a more expensive price tag than the W380, but (I think) with less features. At least the W380 has gesture control and an attractive purple color. OK to be fair, may be we better check out what the W350 is all about.![]()
In the package it has a charger, a battery, a USB cable, a headset, a CD, and a manual. This unit also gets a 512MB M2 as well. Not sure if all packages are the same.
The colour model is called Electric Black, which is the Walkman orange and black theme colour. The phone, if you hold it on hand, is a lot thinner and smaller than you see them in the photo. This is a big plus.
The flip cover can open and reveal the number keys for all phone functions. Everybody is saying it is so retro. Yeah welcome back to the Ericsson glory days. I also remember a lot of broken flip T28s and T39s shipping back for repair.One more fascinating design on this phone is that, Sony Ericsson can manage to put the music control keys on the less than 2mm flip.

The Walkman music control buttons can work without opening the flip. The design idea is to make a MP3 (or MP4) player with phone function. That is why the whole phone is so light, thin and narrow.
Number keys are in glossy black. The voice receiver is located at the bottom of the key pads.
The 1.3 MP camera is located at the back of the phone. Yes 1.3 MP, this is a simple phone.
The M2 slot is located at the back and inside the back cover.
Comparing to the W580 Walkman phone.
A lot thinner than the W580. It is actually 10mm in thickness, around the same with the W890.
Comparing the form factor, the W350 is thinner, narrower but a bit longer than the W580.
OK, I especially asked to shoot this key lock. The idea for this phone is the same as the W380 that if you unlocked the external keys here, you can have full control of the music buttons without flipping open the phone. However, to go with the thin orange trim line design, the key lock is so thin and a bit thigh, without some finger nails, you can never unlock anything.
The colour matching headset with the Walkman music interface. You can tell from the earphone this is supposed to be a low end Walkman phone. But actually you can get a older W580 with less money.![]()
A close up on the colour matching earphones. The metallic orange colour is very eye catching.
Well, not sure where I get this, I think it is the come-with wall paper theme in the phone. The screen is not big, only at 1.9 inches but the colour display is not bad at all.
I have nothing much to add at the end. It is totally depends on what you feel about this phone. Feature-wise, it is really nothing. Look and feel, it is thin, light, and narrow, plus it reminds you the glory days of Ericsson.![]()

A quick question about this phone. Does the flap just hang there or does it lock into place? I like the retro look of this phone.
Does flipping the flap down answer the phone when it rings?
@Donnation
It locks at the normal open position, and at the maximum openable position. It has a kind of spring in the flip join for easy opening action.
@Radiux36
It has "open to answer" setting for you to flip open to answer. I have prepared some photo shots to show you. This time it is in Blue and a European model.
Normal open position. It locked there.
It is opening mid-way. It cannot lock there but we just do it for the photo shooting.![]()
Max openable position. I think it adopted the broken flip experience from the old Ericsson phones. So SE give more flexibility on the normal open position. In case someone or something forced the flip to the back, it still can absorb the force and not breaking instantly.
Open to answer menu
On and off... of course....
One more thing that I wanted to add in. When you are done with the phone and flip close it. It automatically goes to the Walkman mode. Whenever the phone is closed it is a Walkman. It is the idea. Also this time I can lock and unlock the external (located on top) unlock key without the use of finger nail. I can move the narrow button quite easily this time on this blue model.

Nice backup phone. Might get one myself to replace my K660i.
Is that a standard 3.5'' mini stereo plug I see on the top?

Holy crap, if you look closely at the UI pictures, SE went back to the old style K750/W800 style fonts back from 2005! I realize that this phone is only running 176x220 resolution, but SE changed all their current phones to use a newer, better looking font, even on phones with that resolution such as the Z710i and K550i. I wonder why they went back in time?
weird eh? I noticed those fonts too.. but the walkman is 3.0 right?Originally Posted by Radiux36

May be there will be another way to set a home screen default other than a walkman default when you close the flip. Or just close the Walkman application completely then it will go back to the home screen mode when you close the flip. I didn't test that one at the time.Originally Posted by BlueCalx

Like all SE phones, there will be an extension from the phone to your headphone. Then you can use standard 3.5mm jack on the extension. You can see them in the pop lover's photo picts.
