so who's using mobjab with a S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 handset and yahoo messenger? nokia are being particularly unhelpful by saying the reason yahoo messenger doesn't work on a n95 is nothing to do with them and they won't comment on 3rd party software! i have told nokia it works on an 3230 but they seem unwilling to investigate. knowing this issue exists on other S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1 handsets would be a great help?

How do you expect Nokia to investigate? Do you think they have direct access to Mobjab's servers and representative that's currently AWOL from this thread?

That reminds me of how I once called T-mobile some years ago to complain that their Wireless Village server is broken and expected their tech support to even know what that is.

Don't hold high hopes for the built-in IM protocol on Nokias. No one wants to provide this service (because you cannot profit from doing so). The best outcome is if an Open Source project picks it up and allows you to install the server on your own *NIX box. Then you wouldn't have to call Nokia or T-mobile to complain that your own server is broken (or wait for others to implement/fix a feature, like Mobjab, who are probably now wondering how to recover those programmer-hours spent for free on the project).

Another solution would be a Nokia BETA labs Nokia-hosted-server project, but, as evident from the newly released Nokia Chat, Nokia is more interested in its own GPS-powered IM service than donating efforts to AIM/Yahoo/MSN/Google. Especially Google, who is probably sitting on top of its Android pile and realizing the importance of access to hardware. Did I hit all irrelevant third-parties in this rant, or did I miss someone?

    Tsk.
    You missed Microsoft!

I'm certain they've had a hand in making the Nokia IM client unusable!

the reason i expected nokia to investigate is because i have been in constant touch with mobjab helping to test there servers and it appears that only 2 nokia phones are affected by this, mobjab are adamant the fault lies with the firmware in the n95 so therefore nokia should look into this?

I am beginning to suspect that it's a moot point.

    Hi

    1. user management interface is taking a bit longer as handling the 4 external IMs is bit tricky.

    2. web client after the UAM is working as desired so that it can handle all the 4 external IMs.

    3. is everyone getting this french message from msn telling them they need to update there pc client?

You would get this on a desktop MSN Messenger client as well. Needs to be ignored. Its sent by MSN servers.

    4. My problem with the whole "built-in IM program" saga is: How do companies that support this protocol make their money?

Correct on this. No Revenue models we can think about honestly as of now.

    5. Firmware issue. N95 and E62 we are aware about this bug.

    6. or wait for others to implement/fix a feature, like Mobjab, who are probably now wondering how to recover those programmer-hours spent for free on the project

the delay is not due to contraints on our resources. we need to technically figure out how to handle account editions on external IMs smoothly. we knew from the start that revenue model would be difficult.

    7. Nokia is more interested in its own GPS-powered IM service than donating efforts to AIM/Yahoo/MSN/Google.

    Bingo. you hit the nail.

    8. How do you expect Nokia to investigate? Do you think they have direct access to Mobjab's servers and representative that's currently AWOL from this thread?

Dont mind Nokia investigating this issue. we can give access to our servers. we are away from this thread cuase we need to get the UAM and web client on.

    hi,

i can connect to the mobjab server no problem and i can also retrieve my msn contact list. however, the contacts are only listed by their email address, their msn names does not seem to appear anywhere. is this a bug or is it simply a limitation of mobjab?

I paid for Agile Messenger because it seemed to be the best multi-protocol client available for my phone.
If MobJab (ie. server and user control front-end) became a working service utilising Nokia's onboard client, I'd almost certainly be willing to pay a small-ish subscription.

Nokia's new Chat software doesn't use the built-in software, isn't available for most Nokia models and, I'd imagine, will end up as a paid-for subscription service in time.

Any update on the mobjab end?

As of late when I log in, I am recieving a failure on the msn as it is unable to access my data and I don't get the annoying french message.

    Hi

We believe IMPS access for the end user should be free for person2person chatting. And we won't be charging a subscription fee for IMPS access.

Hai, I've just applied the MOBJAB solution to my N82. everything goes well whereby I'm able to log on to my MSN and YM accounts. Only problem is only my MSN reaveals my online/offline contacts whereby all of my yahoo conacts remains offline. I've checked through my YM proggy and it reaveals that they are online, I even had them test send me a message, and nothing pops up on my side (phone IM). So my question is "How do i get my YM contacts to reveal their online presence as like my MSN" ? now they're just a list of ghosts in my Phones IM.

I've used third part proggies uch as EQO, talkonaut and so on... they all work fine without a glitch, only they're heavy and resourcefull.

Great job guys, u've got my two thumbs up. Now trying it on my friends V9... we're both using unlimited data plan.

PS: our phone is our modem when we're beside our laptops.
