Nice things! Some functions that I never thought would work are now working!

    For the p905i and SH905i:
    I'm using a NextSim v6! I'm in the US, and I use T-Mobile.

Things that I can confirm are working:

OneSeg- This works but as there is no OneSeg broadcasters within the United States, its pretty much useless.

Things that I want to confirm, but can't:
i-Mode- I think I can get this to work, but I need to get the t-zones unlimited plan. If anyone can test this out then that would be great!
Mail (Not SMS)- This should also work if i-mode is working

MOST IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE IF YOU WANT TO CHECK IF YOU CAN USE THESE FUNCTIONS!!! MAKE SURE THAT THE BAR AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN READS GPRS AND NOT GSM!!! THIS IS IMPERATIVE!

    Observations I have made:
It seems like if the bar at the top is GSM, you cannot connect to any of the data aspects of the phone, such as OneSeg, i-mode, internet, etc. However, if you connect using GPRS then these things may work. Things like i-Mode should technically work, although it may be slow.

Those that don't believe me I can post pictures at request!

even it it said gprs vs gsm, you still have to input the gateway, apn etc of t-mobile's network.

Now the problem is finding where those settings are located and if they are modifiable.

On my so905ics, I cant change anything so even if I have gprs it will point to docomo's imode server therfore no connection.

BUT I hope you will succeeed

If I remember correctly, there is a place to change data connection settings in DoCoMo phones, it's just that no one knows what to make of it because it's ...non-standard.

And on the topic of One-seg- I believe Brazil is the only other country that uses this. It'd be nice if America would use this instead of... what are they using now?

1seg is digital terrestrial broadcasting. It is somewhat similar to DTV. Actually, any device which has the 1seg antenna and decoder hardware can use 1seg.

As for xRICex's concern, the entire point was to be able to connect to DoCoMo's servers over in Japan using T-Mobile's network. T-Mobile might offer a service that would let us do that. Dunno if that'll work though.

The status bar switching between 'GSM' and 'GPRS' just means that the phone has detected that GPRS can be used with the base station you're connected to. A lot of Motorola phones have that status icon (although they say '2.5G' or '2G' instead). It really doesn't mean anything though because these days every base station should support GPRS, it's just that phones usually stop looking for that support after a bit of time and will change back to GSM as you see.

The more important problem, as Yang says, is how to put the APN settings and such into the phone to actually connect to the internet. However I can tell you from now you'll never get i-mode and its related features (such as email) to work because your operator needs to have the related server hardware installed too (ie they have to be running an i-mode service). The best thing you can hope for is getting internet access on the phone's browser (and I don't think this will ever be possible either because again docomo uses different standards for net access; they don't use WAP).

What about the "full browser" that some phones have for accessing sites intended for computers? Oh well, this won't really matter except in the N906iL (which has Wi-Fi).

I think the more pressing question is, can you find someone who will sell you an N906iL when it comes out? Because traditionally docomo doesn't sell any of the iL phones in its retail shops or online shop; rather it only sells them direct to corporate customers. I don't think this will change with the N906iL.

But anyway, presumably if the phone is connected to a WiFi hotspot then it should just access the net directly using DHCP details from the router it connects to. However, it's a docomo phone we're talking about, so it's possible the system was changed for the sake of it. That's often done by docomo...

Well, Telstra in Australia offers i-mode: they have a franchise agreement with DoCoMo ( see here ).

Therefore, if it was possible to get the APN settings and whatever into the phone, would it be possible to connect to Telstra's i-mode service?

Telstra shut down its i-mode service last December. They essentially weren't allowed to renew the licensing contract because they didn't fill its requirements (it only got 6% of the subscribers it needed to be allowed to renew). You're a bit behind the times.

Anyway technically yes, if you could figure out what settings went into where the phone should technically work. But it's no simple task...

Oh, right. I've noticed that with the older iL phones too- there aren't any even on Yahoo Auctions. Well, there goes that hope.

Heh I'm not on Telstra either, I just read too much news. But yeah, was a bit sad they had to kill it but at the prices they were charging it's not surprising barely anybody signed up.

    -----

Yeah, I was a bit curious with all the interest in the iL phones, just how anybody was going to get one? Hehe
