Be patient during the install; it's a big file and the phone hangs for about 30 seconds at the beginning of the process, and it takes at least a few minutes during the actual writing/isntall time.
I installed the new firmware as soon as I received a notification to close the original N95-3 thread as there was new firmware available (HoFo msg).
Having played with it for about an hour now, and having re-installed my original apps, I must say I LOVE THE NEW FIRMWARE. Wow!
- Way faster boot time
- UBER FAST camera load time
- Browser seems faster, pages seem to load quicker (not as laggy, but still somewhat laggy) and yes, youtube.com works. No need for the mobile version anymore. But videos are kind of HUGE on the display. Maybe there's a way to resize them? It does work as advertised!
- Jumping around the menu seems faster. Not as laggy as before. Maybe that has something to do with the demand paging? I'm kind of dumb when it comes to that stuff.
- Unfortunately the "useless key" (multimedia key or whatever they call it?) is still useless. They should make naked chicks pop up on the screen when you press that button...
- On my N95-3, Device Status is reporting:
Memory in use: 51MB
Free Memory: 96MB
That's with nothing but Device Status and Standby running.
For anyone about to do the update...It does wipe the phone. Your contacts, pictures, apps and settings are toasted. Make a backup with PC Suite first. I restored after the update and everything was fine...except the apps. Reinstall. I also pulled out my 8GB memory card before doing the update just to be safe.
My Access Point settings were restored as were my bookmarks and text messages. Pretty painless if you ask me.
I was able to install it in Vista, and it'll run if you select the "Windows XP compatibility mode" for the .exe in windows explorer. Of course, it could do bad things, so use at your own risk...
im using vista ultimate maybe that`s why it won`t install on my laptop
This is definitely an improvement. They may have even fixed that unreliable autofocus in the old camera applet. More often than not, it wouldn't focus of even high contrast, simple scenes. That was a big issue for me - about the time the focus locked, whatever I was taking a photo of left.
Looks as if they added a few applets, Podcasting directory, of course the N-Gage applet, Flickr uploading...
"Kentucky seeks to execute in a relatively humane manner and has worked hard to adopt such a procedure," Kentucky Attorney General Gregory Stumbo has said.

Its customizable, you know. It doesn't have to be useless.
