    help with Toshiba w54t

Hello. I just got back from being abroad in Japan for around a year and kind of miss using the phone I got while I was over there. I was wondering if anyone could help point me in the right direction to figure out a way to use it over here. I tried using an AT&T SIM card today, but it didn't work, so I'm figuring it's locked. I'm trying to get some of my friends that are still in Japan to talk to the AU people about if I can even unlock it or anything, but I figured I'd ask here. I tried looking around on the forum here, but don't even see any mention about any toshiba phones. If anyone can point me to places I can do some research or give me some pointers it would be appreciated. thanks.

Nope. Japanese CDMA is slightly different from American CDMA.

On the other hand, you could probably use its non-network functions with your old au card inserted. Certainly you aren't really going to find anything like it in the States.

Yeah. I especially like using the dictionary alot. It's pretty useful and alot cheaper than buying a regular electronic one. Thanks everyone.

Well they are in the process of switching over to the 800mhz frequency used in the rest of the world.

All of their phones that have come out since last year have it. Techinically its compatible but I can't even imagine what you'd have to do to get it on Verizons network and its not FCC certified.

Well, even if that's out of the way, Japanese ESNs are different than ESNs used in the rest of the world. (5 letters A-Z followed by 6 numbers) That, and they now use (since the W4x series) R-UIM cards (au IC card) which Verizon doesn't use (heck, no CDMA carrier in North or South America uses it).
