iphone is not worth cancelling cityfido. I just renewed for two years, got $15/month off, so i pay $25 no SAF + $140 credit on my next invoice. Good luck with your iPhone

How did you manage to get this? I'm on CityFido and never have much bargaining power because of it.

Yep I wanna see that invoice too because there is NO bargaining power with CSRs if you have the *original* CityFido.

Perfect ex - I have the original CF, renewed in Feb 06 for 2yrs and I got: 45$/mth + 911 + NO SAF + CallerID/VM ($11 value pack) + Free z520a at the time (due to CSR who incorrectly informed me I could get the subsidized handset AND no SAF concurrently).

When my time was up in Feb 08, I called 'em up to renew again and they basically said I was SOL - I could get a subsidized handset, but have to pay SAF moving fwd *or* NO SAF moving fwd BUT NO 'free' handset. SO BASICALLY - I kept my ghetto z520a so as NOT to lose SAF.

Now I pay $45 +911+ $16 value pack no longer offered (call display, name display, who called, enhanced vm, 2500 txt msgs) = $ 61.5 + tax = $69.5 after.

But after calling Retentions to discuss my LD overages this past month (something like $10-15), a very nice gentleman heard me out but explained once again to me the VALUE of CityFido. For the last 3 months I have used b/t 3000-5000 minutes

Still he offered me:

A. $30/month for: 250 day time minutes, UL incoming, UL even & w/e, call display, 100 LD mins, & maybe free VM? (cant remember). BUT I would have to pay the SAF, PAY for text msgs & PAY for Enhanced VM (which I love to death).

When I asked him to work within my current CF plan all he could do was offer me a 5$/month credit for the remainder of my term (WHICH I TOOK GLADLY) and ALSO told me about the current $11 value pack (enhanced VM, name display, call display, who called, mobile backup, 125 txt msgs) as well as the 15$ value pack ( enhanced VM, name display, call display, who called, mobile backup, 125 txt msgs, 50 pic msgs and "unlimited mobile WAP surfing")

SO with the $ 5 credit my bill drops to $64.50, and maybe even lower if I switch to a lower cost value pack. But he almost advised me NOT to do that because of the changes to US txt msgs charges as of Jul 15th. Right now in my current grandfathered plan US txts msgs are free - and while Fido has stated that as of Jul 15th the pay-per-use fee will incr (along with their cost in some value packs) -> the CSR hinted that because my plan is old & more expensive than the $11 one they might just continue to honor the free US txt msgs. He didn't think this would be the case with newly offered value packs. So for now, I'm gonna keep my $16 value pack and see what happens in July...

Not for nothing but csr's dont do much other then punch the buttons when you ask to change or add an option. I wanted the 1 gig option and a csr told me that there was nothing they could do to make sure it was for surfing on my phone. a manager put me in touch with someone in montreal and ....voila...a gig a month that all csr's here told me i wasnt getting.

CityFido customers get the same retention discounts as any other paying customer. All that matters is how much you spend per month, not what plan you're on. And CityFido customers generally spend more than many other plans already. The standard $10 and $15 retention discounts are most often applied to good-standing high value customers nearing or exceeding $90-$100/month or so, however sometimes for other special cases too. The fact you're on CityFido makes no difference. I also have the $15 credit combined with the permanent SAF credit on my original $40 CityFido account, and I got these discounts before I worked for Fido. It was simple: my contract was about to expire and I complained that I am spending about $130 per month (with all my options) and they simply offered a 3-year discount of $15/month. I may have gotten less if I was a low-value customer only spending $40 or $50. Regards.

It'll be interesting to see how much room for bargaining there is at the iPhone launch. I've got a CountryFido plan which I've had for at least 3 years (no contract) and I've probably averaged just over $100 a month for those 3+ years. I did try to call once and see if Fido was willing to offer me any sort of discount on a new phone, but the CSR essentially told me that they weren't going to offer me anything, and if I didn't like it I could leave.

I'm interested if Fido and Rogers will be compelled (by law) to offer a no-contract option for the iPhone. I haven't been able to find anything regarding such a law, but the fact that there's never been a contract-only phone in the past is notable.

ok, you'll have to wait till the end of the month, but I’d suggest taking me for my word if your contract is expiring. It is a 2 year contract.

Also iPhone is over rated for a three year contract, just try to get a better deal with city fido. Remember other carriers are having to compete with the iPhone so bargain with them, then go to Fido with the offer you got from Telus..Bell. Instant credit!!

great I'm on a couples plan, fido told me I have to cancel I only have a year left and pay 400 bucks and then sign back up for 299 for the iphone for 3 years , gues I'll be passing until you can purchase the iphone without a contract.
