    3G iphone GSM and CDMA??

Hey guys got a question on which I'm not to sure about. I'm a long VZW customer and plan to stay that way because AT&T is horrible in this area but I'm in love with the iphone

Now I was reading somewhere online that this new 3g iphone will be able to work with all carriers, not sure how much of it is true. But it was stated that the iphone will work with GSM and CDMA. I understand that last years model iphone would not work with verizon (as it was GSM only), but if the new 3g iphone works with CDMA, then one could purchase an unlocked iphone once there hacked (which won't take long) thus having great service with the best phone out there. Now I'm not sure if this is true or not. I'm praying to God that it is.

Has anyone read or heard the same type of ordeal that I have been reading?

It works with WCDMA, that's different than the CDMA which Verizon uses so no, it will not work

    Isn't Japan getting the iPhone?

And isn't Japan CDMA only? Even if I was right about this, I think Japan operates on different radio frequencies than the US so it wouldn't work anyway.

Actually, Japan has WCDMA running on the 2100 band, and since iPhone 3G has triband 3G, it will work in Japan.

I was told yesterday at the local Verizon store that by the end of the year an adapter will be available making the iphone Verizon compatable.

Japan uses CDMA and WCDMA depending on network. There is also PHS which is based on TDMA. Unfortunately, CDMA and WCDMA are incompatible technologies.

NOOO the new iphone wont work on CDMA. the new iphone is wCDMA 3G which is gsm 3g network. and the new iphone sold in japan is the same exact one being relesed soon, it has triband wCDMA 850/1900/2100 which is why it will work in japan. there is no CDMA version coming out, so verizon/sprint people are S.O.L.

and besides, verizon will never activate an ESN on their network that they didnt sell you. and yes i know about their upcoming "open network" movement...but i dont believe it and its not in effect yet anyways...
