sim only stores Name & Phone Number and nothing else?

I think I just deleted a bunch of phone numbers, addresses, notes, and email addresses from my phone. I've had numbers both in the sim and the phone's memory so I thought I'd do a thorough phone clean up and move everything to the sim. After moving all the phone memory entries to the sim, the smart person that I am, I decided to delete all entries in the phone memory. Now when I list my phone directory, all I get is the person's name and one phone number (probably the defaut number) and I've lost work, cell, email and address entries. Did I like totally screw up? I thought the sim saved everything.

Ya gotta read up! Only name and phone number are saved on the SIM. It's always been this way. Just one phone number.

Now you tell me....after I deleted everything. Well I got everything re-entered in the phone's memory. I have the PCSuite software and DKU-5 cable but I couldn't figure out how to transfer my phone/address book directly from Outlook. I ended up beaming each contact by infrared from an ipaq. I'll know better next time.

at least you had them on your iPaq otherwise you'd be SOL. Maybe if they make larger than 32kb SIM cards then phones will allow a capability to store more than just name and number.

ive been using a 64KB sim for almost 6months from now, and it still stores single contact number for a for every contact. and thats the default number

i think the sim also saves the group calling also i believe. If u saved ur contacts as FAMILY or whatever and u copy it from phoen to sim memory.. and then u copy it back to phone when u put ur sim in a new phone, it'll recognize if it's family caller group or whatever..

Cause I think it works for meh on my 7250! =)

Aren't caller groups stored in the phone?

Caller groups are in the phone but some phones can manage to have a caller group of sim contacts without copying them.

The main reason I can think of for having 1name/1number per entry on the sim is for universal compatibility- all phones take it but their internal options differ vastly...

i thought that if you have multiple numbers for one name, when you copied that to the sim, it would create an entry for each number....

ie: John: Home tel, Work TEL.... when you copy the sim will be like John Home tel and another John with work tel... thats what my t68i did, but i am not sure on nokia...

I think it probably depends on the phone. To be sure, I would copy them individually by hand and name them in some standard format:

    Name/M
    Name/H
    Name/W etc...

If you're using PCSuite, you can sync the phone to a contact list in Outlook (I believe others may be supported but I use Outlook). Also, content copier can be used to copy data between two phones or to back it up on a PC.

I don't have the cable, I do my sync and backup to the PC using the IR.
