If the phone is still under warranty take it to a Rogers dealer who can send it to Nokia for a no cost firmware flash upgrade. If it's not under warranty, Bongo Wireless will flash upgrade the firmware for $25.00.
be warned!
that's the way I became hooked on GSM.
my 8260 crashed and I was loaned a 8390.. now I'll never go back to TDMA

8260 bust easily? mine lasted like 2-3 years, it only busted after it got drowned in beer, i heard GSM reception sucks, i have 7.7 firmware, going to use it for a while and see if its worht going to 7.8 because i would have to pay, don't have warranty or anything
I don't think it's so much GSM that makes reception suck. It's the 1900 Mhz frequency that the network uses from what I understand. It's such a high frequency and therefore a small wavelength that the signal has difficulty penetrating buildings.
I have no issues with the reception of the 8390 at all. Firmware 7.7
its true that theoretically the 1.9GHz signal has a harder time penatrating buildings, but in realworld situations, it barely makes any difference. fido uses only 1.9GHz and they have solid coverage. its just rogers developing network thats more of the problem.

, as long as its small enough and works good i'm happy
Rogers had a solid 1900 tdma network too..Originally posted by Charliey
