I took July 11th off work and nothing was gonig to stop me from getting an iPHone. Not my recently signed 3 year deal, nothing... Well, nothing except for ridiculous plans. I'm okay with the 400megs for $60, what I'm not okay with is the $20 extra per month for call id, voice mail and 6pm evenings. I cannot afford to pay $90 a month for a phone and I make pretty decent coin.

Might just cancel all my rogers services altogether, head over to telus and be done with it.

The front page of theglobeandmail.com is over 1MB. So is the front page of cbc.ca . That's before you even click on a link. Open Google maps and pan around your neighborhood a bit - uses up close to 1MB on my Nokia. Do those three things once every day and it's 25% of your quota for the month.

400MB doesn't seem like a lot to me...

    What a joke!

I HATE ROGERS!!! I want the iPhone, but at these prices, we pay $80 for 350 less minutes, WAY less data etc etc etc. How do we get through? Let me know, I'll email/call till my fingers bleed!

on a first gen iphone 400mb is plenty....on 3g it is not unless you spend most of your time in wifi areas and do not use 3g for youtube, video streaming, and anything else that consumes massive data.

Rogers said data-less plans for the iPhone, with just voice and basic text, will start at $15 a month.

Well if thats true I'm personally fine with that. If everyone gets that with the iPhone perhaps Rogers will clue in and lower the data rates. The first gen iPhone was fantastic as a wifi device and iPod.

I don't know. I do see Gen 1 Iphones hold their value now. Interesting, how Rogers data/voice plans changed the whole perspective on 3G Iphone.

All my data has magically started working (at about the 1 hour mark on hold with data), with one exception.

I still can't connect to my gmail via the Mail app.

I'm using IMAP to connect, all the settings are correct (works on wifi). Don't tell me rogers blocks this?

......as long as you pay $799.99 plus taxes for the device. You get screwed one way or the other.

    Exclamation

Let's face it, 300 $ for any phone on a 3 years plan is A LOT... but since the iPhone is well publicized (on top of being a very attractive piece of technology), it might have done very well in the "mainstream" market.

The average user doesn't have a clue as to what 400 mb worth of data represent (see Rogers insignificant comparison to thousands of email) so that shouldn't have caused the "user" not to buy the iPhone. However, as everyone already mentioned, the absolute crapiness of the voiceplans combined with the even more ridiculous "value pack" will definitely have people think twice before jumping on the iBoat.

I was look forward to the iPhone as a power user. Trust me, after this announcement, I'm actually considering switching to the competition (yes CDMA sucks but hey, HTC Touch @ 7 $ web + agressive voice plan... why not ?)

As bad as the plans are....and as pissed as I am about it, there seems to be a "bright side" (if you wanna look at it that way) to it all. Apparently all Rogers and Fido WiFi Hotspots are included and are unlimited in all the plans. How many hotspots do they actually have though throughout the GTA?

What about apps in the app store? How big are those? You get punished for buying apps!
