People are not stupid. Customers outside of forums, the regular consumer will realize right away that the plans are absurd. That in fact could turn into a massive amount of consumers not buying the iPhone and turning to Belus for cheaper voice/data plans. Large amount of wireless users were waiting for the iPhone and plans to be released to jump from Belus to Rogers. That in fact will not happen, and many Rogers customs who did not resign and had waited to renew their contract could in fact jump to Belus.
The economics behind the plans does not make the iPhone 3G a good seller which in turn could brew lower priced plans. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Agreed....once the average customer does the math and sees that they will be getting less for more, the reality will set in and they will pass on the iPhone. Those who NEED to have one probably have one already.
My phone is expensed to my company so I have a corporately reimbursed price plan from Rogers. I would ideally like to keep this but it doesn't look like i would be able to.
has anyone heard of any corporate rates for the iphone?
if not, and I want to convert to one of these iphone plans anyone think I will be able to do so in the apple store or rogers store through the normal upgrade process? typically when i try to upgrade my phone the rep has to call the hardware upgrade line and do a corporate upgrade (more work than a normal upgrade).

I totally agree. I had both my father and fiancee play with the first gen Iphone. After that my father and fiancee wanted the Iphone so bad, and both decided to wait until the official Rogers 3G Iphone release.
Earlier this morning I sent an email with the Rogers data/voice plans to my father at work and my fiancee. I did not make any comments, just asked what they think of the plans. Lets keep in mind that they both do not visit forums, nor know much about MB vs. GB. Both of them replied to me and said, "wow, $60.00 and no unlimited data, I don't think I'll be getting the new IPhone".
EDIT: So now they both want the first Gen iphone. lol.

none the less -- those who will want the iphone some will pay any price and will jump anyway... those who are not willing to pay the price will stay with telus and bell... so be it.. just not as big as a wave..
good news for telus none the less as they remain the leader for data rates.. and should this "touch" blackberry actually surface..
I agree with the fact that there are a LOT of satisfied Rogers customers. I'm one of them. Let's face it, most Rogers customers have pretty good voice plans that they feel comfortable with. And that exactly is the problem. None of those customers want to give up their good plans for a crappy one that they have to keep for 3 years, just in order to get a stupid phone, even if it's the iPhone.
Unlimited data or not, the voice plan is the biggest hickup in this mess. Absolutely ridiculous. Even for a moderate phone user like me.

Agreed. It will equal out, and we are back at square 1. Subscriber rate will not change too much on both sides. That is why we need a 2nd communication player in the GSM industry. This is ridiculous to have Rogers as a GSM monopoly. Only in Canada.
EDIT: I'm still shocked to this day how the sale of Fido (Microcell) was allowed. Rogers 1 and Canada 0.
If you have a grandfathered plan and want to upgrade your device for an iPhone, you will have to give up your plan and use one of the ones they advertised. Period.
In my experience, this has always been the case at Rogers. I've lost a few grandfathered plans over the years over even the tiniest change because of it. I bought my current phone outright for $500 (a Motorola V635, don't hate) because I was told that a HUP would make me lose my plan. It's obnoxious.

The voice and data plan are on par with what is currently available with all carriers in the basic plan area. I just spoke with a 1st gen user and they only use 100 to 200 mb. The only reasons I can see why someone would want unlimited is to tether, stream or download files.
Rogers currently is selling air cards for that...for $0
