Personally, Rogers either offers me a hell of a deal that really beats out Telus and Bell (don't much care about the iphone itself since I don't think that's up for negotiation and is not a shared phone by all carriers), or I'll move to Telus and ask them to give me enough initial discount that at least covers the Rogers ECF somewhat. I don't want to pay Rogers another cent. I am in over a decade with Rogers now. well No MORE.
I guess Robbers was right about something big coming to canada in July 11th...
the iPhone and the huge wireless bill that comes with it when you go over your data limit.
Ya, I was just thinking of Photoshopping up their Ad:
"Something Big is Coming on July 11th"
"High Voice plan prices and High Data plan prices, combined into one High Monthly Plan Price".
I suspect that much like Apple dropping their prices a few months after launch because people weren't biting, the same will happen to Rogers as well. Sometimes big companies just need a knock upside the head to wake up.
If I was a Rogers shareholder, I'd be PISSED. They're flushing away a huge market because of their inability to deal with change. At $60 a month for unlimited data and a decent voice plan (say, 300/300), with a couple thousand text messages thrown in, they'd be selling the damn things so fast they'd need to have employees at the store 24/7, even on a 3 year contract.
Rogers Wireless said Friday that the price of its basic voice-and-data combo for iPhones, which become available in Canada on July 11, will start at $60 a month....Rogers said data-less plans for the iPhone, with just voice and basic text, will start at $15 a month.
at least robbers has made a once tough decision of whether or not to switch from gen 1 to 3g iphone quite easy for me. I will save my money which will subsequently be taken away by those rich dudes in Saudi Arabia that vacuum my wallet everytime I pump fuel into my vehicle....but thats a topic for some other time.

Exactly. I'd be one of them. I know dozens of other people who would also. And guess how much financial hit they'd take if they offered unlimited data? NONE.
This is ridiculous. It costs them no more to offer more texts and data and they'd increase subscriber base dramatically.
Does anybody know if Rogers will in any way negotiate these fracking unreal terms?

I suspect they will - judging from a few other iPhone 3G plans that have been released by other carriers, many of them seem to be under the impression that the phone is going to be so hot that they can basically charge whatever they want and people will still buy it.
They'll probably be revising those views about 3 months down the road...

Then why bother getting an iPhone when you can't use data? That's the whole point of an iPhone!
Maybe you can add the $30 data onto regular voice plans after all.....although highly unlikely!
I doubt that very much
A big reason for these combo plans because if it was just a data add on you would have people buying the iPhone for $200 and cancelling the data for an addition $100 then selling it

they should charge a $300 decf in that case......just give us a damn data add on package!
Just lock in the data plans for 3 years as well. Jeesh, why does that seem so hard to do for them?? What's the whole HUP thing for if I cannot upgrade my phone with the voice plan I am already subscribed to??
I used to care about the HUP and all that eligibility stuff.....now I don't care because the plans are so stupid I've lost interest in purchasing the device.
Here is an email I sent to the Financial Post here in Canada and Steve Jobs. I really hoped to upgrade to the 3G iPhone, but Rogers just does not get it.
Read the comments on the various Forums inhabited by people who are or would be your customers.
All of us hoped that Rogers would recognize that the iPhone is a fully webified device and would price their plans accordingly. Their disclosed data plans show that nothing has changed.
On various technology forums that I subscribe to these plans are universally seen as bad.
The entry level plan with Caller ID, is $92.65/month and thats just with 150 voice minutes, nowhere near enough for even the most basic needs. Over the 3 years contract, this basic plan would cost the customer ($60 + $5.95 SAF) * 1.13 * 12 * 3 = $2682.85
On the lower end, why would someone get a 3G iPhone if all they can use is 400MB of Data? Its like having a Ferrari but you can't afford the gas, and you can only drive around the block 3 times a month.
On the plan that I need since my phone is the only phone I have, as I don't have a landline which is quite common now, it would be
$153.28 X 12 = $1840 x 3 = $5521.82
It would seem that the people that set pricing at Rogers never actually talk to a customer.
I very much doubt that I will be upgrading. I am an early adapter, and many like myself have the first iPhone unlocked with no Rogers Data Plan.
