Maybe you can add the $30 data onto regular voice plans after all.....although highly unlikely!
I think it's possible. Just get the 3-year $60 plan, then cancel in one week, pay the hefty cancellation fee, you got a Rogers branded 3G iPhone for about $600. Now the iPhone's fully paid off, Rogers pocketed at least some profit. But you now have a valuable asset. Your iPhone becomes a "free agent", that works with any Rogers SIM card.
Now, just get a new plan - regular voiceplan and regular data plan. Plug the SIM card into the iPhone. Either the $30/300MB or the $50 flexrate plan, plus your favourite voice plan of choice. Done!
Here is an email I sent to the Financial Post here in Canada and Steve Jobs. I really hoped to upgrade to the 3G iPhone, but Rogers just does not get it.
Read the comments on the various Forums inhabited by people who are or would be your customers.
All of us hoped that Rogers would recognize that the iPhone is a fully webified device and would price their plans accordingly. Their disclosed data plans show that nothing has changed.
On various technology forums that I subscribe to these plans are universally seen as bad.
The entry level plan with Caller ID, is $92.65/month and thats just with 150 voice minutes, nowhere near enough for even the most basic needs. Over the 3 years contract, this basic plan would cost the customer ($60 + $5.95 SAF) * 1.13 * 12 * 3 = $2682.85
On the lower end, why would someone get a 3G iPhone if all they can use is 400MB of Data? Its like having a Ferrari but you can't afford the gas, and you can only drive around the block 3 times a month.
On the plan that I need since my phone is the only phone I have, as I don't have a landline which is quite common now, it would be
$153.28 X 12 = $1840 x 3 = $5521.82
It would seem that the people that set pricing at Rogers never actually talk to a customer.
I very much doubt that I will be upgrading. I am an early adapter, and many like myself have the first iPhone unlocked with no Rogers Data Plan.
Typical shortsightedness
Rogers isnt looking for the smart conusmer.. they are looking for the "I CANT LIVE WITHOUT AN iPHONE" ppl... the people who will go to the minimum 60+20valuepack+6.95+0.50=87.45+tax and then go over thier mins and data so they get charged overages
dont u know how the wireless world works already.... Not everyone will care about the price tag.. its an IPHONE
I am one of the more loyal and profitable customers of Rogers; currently paying $70 for 350 day time, early evening and unlimited data on a non-smart phone. But the plan is ridiculous. I'm not going to pay $95 (voice + data + caller id + early evening). I admin that I am an Apple fanboy. But as much as I love to have an iPhone, screw it. And screw you, Ted rogers. I never had any ill feeling toward Rogers. But now, given this, I am leaving Rogers the minute Yak got their GSM network running. Again, F U.

As stated a million times, the preliminary plans was a draft. It was an internal document of what the plans may look like. How many times must someone say "not official until actually launched"??
This reminds me of the Rogers thread with O_ssie announcing possible upcoming data plan changes which were scrapped by Rogers execs.
Rumour has it that someone got cold feet and went to their backup plan which is what was announced. Unlimited may be seen in the future if sales arent as expected.
I have a feeling they'll be rethinking these plans. I'm with everyone here when I say= GARBAGE!
In any case, I'd suggets keeping your 5GB flexplans and buying one on eBay a few weeks after launch!
Line 1: (Mobilicity) BTS 25 on PAC - Unlimited local talk/text/data @ $23/month Line 2: (Wind) Irresistible35 - Unlimited everything @ $35/month Line 3: (Wind) Holiday Miracle - Unlimited everything @ $40/month Line 4: (Fido) Retention - Unlimited North America talk & text @ $50/month Line 5: (Wind) All in the Family Laptop - Unlimited data @ $15/month

No, I think there are many ways in hell this is going to fail. It 'succeeded' in the US because of the iphone experience AND the unlimited data. 400MB on a 3G connnection is nothing and is a recipe for overages. The iPhone certainly isn't going to fall flat here - there'll be enought people who really just want to be seen with one (ooo - shiny fashion accessory!), but the serious users are going to pass this by.
And if Rogers is dumb enough to believe that this is going to sabotage the launch of the AWS competitors services, they've got another thing coming. There's no way in hell that anyone is going to chain themselves to uncle Teddy for 3 years for this weak ****.
I predict 1/3 the number of iPhones sold per capita in Canada versus the US. Is that failure? Maybe not, but it sure doesn't seem like success either.
I can only laugh. I wasn't planning porting to get an iPhone this year. Was contemplating doing it next summer, but not if they don't change those data plans.
My suggestion, go pick up some astroglide before you buy the iPhone. hmmm. Nice publicity stunt, buy a bunch of astroglide/ky/whatever and send it to rogers with a note asking them to use it before they rape you.
A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.
