I just sent an email to Consumerist.com to see if they can help make this public that the Canadian people are not happy with these plans.
Does anyone know an email address for a Rogers executive?
Honestly - Nothing will happen unless they know that people are not happy with these plans... Rogers will not be "re-thinking" these until long after the iPhone is released... These are the plans, and we have to deal with it or do something about it.
Subject line: Something big is coming to Rogers...
... and it's a big disappointment.
I am a Rogers customer since 2000, and my husband and I had been looking forward to upgrading our phones to the iPhone this coming July 11th. We are not going to do that now, since we both are going to have to give up our voiceplans with the terrific value and service that have kept us with Rogers for many years. We are so disappointed now that we cannot upgrade to the iPhone and add a data plan to our existing voice plans, and we are considering to switch providers. Even though the offered data plans with the iPhone are - frankly - ridiculous when compared to AT&T offerings in the US, we would have gladly accepted the outragious prices.. but not compared with ridiculous voice plans.
I truly hope that Rogers is going to riconsider their offerings. What are hardware upgrades for, if you have to upgrade your plans too? I can as well resubscribe to a different provider.
Yeah, these plans aren't that great. But does anybody know if we'll be able to add "unlimited incoming calls" to the plans? I've had that for ages and I wouldn't be able to live without it. Or the My5 plans? These are important voice features.
I hope to God Rogers allows us to add them on for an additional cost.
Ha, additional cost. I'm so used to paying "additional fees" that I don't even flinch anymore.
As stated a million times, the preliminary plans was a draft. It was an internal document of what the plans may look like. How many times must someone say "not official until actually launched"??
This reminds me of the Rogers thread with O_ssie announcing possible upcoming data plan changes which were scrapped by Rogers execs.
I have a feeling they'll be rethinking these plans. I'm with everyone here when I say= GARBAGE!
In any case, I'd suggets keeping your 5GB flexplans and buying one on eBay a few weeks after launch!
I guess that theory went down the drain .. sorry Buddy.. these are official... had to keep my mouth for what seemed like FOREVERRR

Sadly I agree with that. It'll take many months, if ever, should they change to their original plans.
I see them milking as many people as possible.
Line 1: (Mobilicity) BTS 25 on PAC - Unlimited local talk/text/data @ $23/month Line 2: (Wind) Irresistible35 - Unlimited everything @ $35/month Line 3: (Wind) Holiday Miracle - Unlimited everything @ $40/month Line 4: (Fido) Retention - Unlimited North America talk & text @ $50/month Line 5: (Wind) All in the Family Laptop - Unlimited data @ $15/month
All my posts are my own opinion only and not necessarily that of any of my employers, past or present.
I am interested to see how July 11 goes, as a dealer. We have had such interest in the iPhone...I wonder how all these people will react to what they are going to have to take from Rogers. Will they still do it? How angry will they get? Will they opt for another phone (LG Vu + $7 ul surfing?), will they port out? Will customer turn-out even be that high on July 11 as expected?
I could care less about the phone itself, I'm just interested to see how the consumer takes it.
Silly sheeple. They see and hear "iPHONE" and think it's just the greatest thing since sliced bread. If only they knew that in the world of GSM, they have so many more exciting options, and more flexible plans they can pick from as well.
It doesnt make sense to complain to Rogers. We need to complain to the CRTC or something to open up the cellphone monopoly. Auction some spectrum, and not allow an existing carrier to bid, or buy out any of the players.
Every time I deal with Rogers it makes me hate them more. Phone, Cable, and even with submitting ads to their magazines. They are the worst to deal with, and always will be until there is competition.
These prices may be brutal, but at least they make for some interesting commentary.
Quite frankly I was in shock when I saw those new rate plans around 9am....at first I thought "This can't be right" but then when I saw it officially posted on Rogers website.....well, I'm still quite shocked.

Like I said. I will make up a generic email for everyone to send. We need to find one email to send it to. IF they get enough of the samething to the same person they ahve to do something about or people will atleast hear about it....

Thanks! I emailed him too:
Today, Apple allowed Rogers Wireless to officially cripple the iPhone in Canada with ridiculous data charges and outragious voice plans.
Sadly, I will have to keep my Windows Mobile device. The iPhone is a marvel of technology, but only compared with a suitable voice and data plan. Other than that, it's an expensive paper weight.
Just thought I would let you know, in case you hadn't heard already.
This whole situation is quite bizarre.....I knew Rogers liked to bone us, but now they are just rubbing it in all of our faces.....
My advice: RUN to ebay and pick up a gen 1 iphone. Add the $30 300mb plan to your account and just be happy that your not one of those "iPhone 3G suckers".....or you could wait until the 3G comes on ebay for like 7 bills and wait until they have successfully unlocked the 3G device. I think the best bet is gen 1 phones however.
