I can't believe that Rogers still have the guts put a "VALUE PACK ADD ONS FOR IPHONE 3G". 60+7.45+911+tax = 77 bucks and no caller ID and 9 pm evening!!!
Rogers just give a very good example to everyone why monopoly is horrible
What about GPS though. Doesn't this use data, or is it like a TomTom? I thought the A-GPS uses data from cell towers as well as satellites to get a more accurate location of where you are.
...yes, I noted Google Maps already... the GPS in the 3G uses Google Maps. It's the exact same thing as in the 1st gen iPhone except that it has more accurate (MUCH MUCH more accurate) location tracking.
I'm not blaming iFido, it's not his fault at all. Anyone who believed that release was not an intelligent person. If you were to listen to the statements made by Rogers execs they clearly stated that they are not fans of unlimited plans. There's just not enough money in it for them. They need to charge people obscene amounts of money per month, not just disgusting amounts :P We are talking about Canada and Rogers here, why would anyone here be surprised at these figures? I'm sure the plans will get better the closer we get to a new GSM provider launching. Remember, this is for the people that have to have it now, but in a few months things will change.
let's not let this turn into a crucifixion of i.Fido
he was handed some info and was faced with a choice.. post or not post.
he posted.
with the reaction of a few of you I believe the next time said decision presents itself, it will probably be made a hell of a lot easier.
yea, lets not kill iFido here!
I do think he is also wondering about his source that is usually on the money. iFido wouldnt announce any tentative info unless he thought it was fairly solid. Even if the source got a hold of some 'fake pre-buzz' info, you would have thought Rogers would give us terrible plans, then unveil these one so that we'd say 'ohhh thank god, these are waaay better.' Guess rogers is still as dumb as we thought.
I don't know about Toronto, but EDGE in Ottawa blows. It's sad that I had to disable auto email checking when using Google Maps or Safari... otherwise things would time out... 3G all the way!
where in ottawa are you? im east end and edge works just fine? obviously 3g will kick arse, but edge ain't bad.
if you wanted to get a new 3g iphone do you need to have one of those specific voice and data plans or could you just use the $30 300mb plan and add it to your exisiting voice plan?

Posting it is fine - but did you read his signature? He was pretty over-confident with his godliness and such. A little humble pie never hurt anyone...

iphone will fail in canada, no doubt.
Agreed about iFido, i hope he keeps leaking since his track record is still over all very good.
About the plans, I just dont know what to get..I dont need so much data but cant afford more minutes I just dont see how I can even afford an iphone.
Guess what I may do is pickup the iPhone 3G on a "new" account, pay it for a month, then cancel the contract and pay off the ECF/DECF fees, and just transfer the iPhone to my "main" account and subscribe to the 30$ data plan while keeping my 20$ retention plan I'm enjoying so much.
I'm curious if they're using IMEI locking/Tracking
the new data plans (non iphone) clealry state any device soooooo
for me, paying retail for the iphone 3G and then adding the $50.00 500 meg flex (up to 5 gig for $100) not only give me more flexibility but the ability to choose the voiceplan I want. sure, Visual voicemail isn't included but i hardly care.
But how many people will be willing to give up their voice plans (which I'm assuming most people are happy with) for these BS plans. How can Rogers not have an add on data plan? Oh God.....I don't even want to think about this travesty and longer.
simple MOST people aren't on the cheapest retention plan out there(not saying you are, but i'd be willing to bet the bulk of the folks here are ), and for most of the masses these plans are very comparable to the current market plans with a larger data plans, better in some cases.
the bulk of the accounts I see are on 25-30$ mega time/my 5/family plans, add the 30$ 300 Mb data plan to it and you're at the same price, except this has a bit more minutes, text included, and 400 Mb of data. again not bad for john Q public. just crappy for john Q hofo
