My thoughts exactly, basically like buying the iPhone3G outright at a high price (just like I did for the 1st Gen).

They can't stop you from doing that, as far as I can tell.

Thanks Rogers for these wonderful plans.

I will keep my HTC Touch and my $7 unlimited web/email with Bell. Costing me $40/month all in including voice, caller id, $7 data, weeknights and weekends, voicemail, system fees, etc.

    let's see...will I pay $100+ or $40?

Rogers really ruined the IPhone experience for seasoned hofo users.

Wow. Rogers doesn't just suck, they just lost a potential 3-year customer.

I'm with Fido and I think I'll pass on getting an iPhone. I'm on a 150 daytime, U/L E/W + Inc for $15 retention plan. Hard to justify 400 mb for $45 and no unlimited incoming.

You better believe I'm only with Fido/Rogers because it's my only choice.

I wonder if Robbers is sponsoring the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival, because these plans are a joke. Leave it to the CRTC to collect their paycheques and pensions while consumers get gouged.

Honestly I am not surprised by these plans. They are typically overpriced Rogers plans and it is no surprise that Rogers continues to bat 1000 at gouging its customers based on the fact that GSM competition is zero in Canada. I must add that I am very surprised that Apple agreed to these plans as I assume that is what caused all the delay way back when the iPhone was launched in the US. Were they not aiming for equal plans for iPhones? If so, someone missed this big mistake.

There is zero incentive to spend $1200 a year for an iPhone plan. You would be better off buying an unlocked one and putting your own voice/data on it to easily save about $30+ a month.

One thing though is that there will be people lining up to buy these phones no matter what the plans are. Once the novelty wears off for many of them, they will be faced with ECFs or paying through the nose to fulfill the contract.

I agree with most of these posts, the "cheap" plan, at $60 for very little, comes with 400MB which would be gobbled up pretty fast at 3G speeds. Too bad Rogers didn't see the potential in volumes with the iPhone.

Oh well, I won't be considering this until $60 gets me 350 minutes, 6pm weeknights, call display, vm and 1GB.

    Good luck Ted!

I think people are really overestimating how much data they will realistically be using. I think that 400MB of data will likely be enough for most people, whether they admit it now or not. YouTube, and streaming radio are the only 2 things that I could see really racking up data fast. If you're sticking to some casual web browsing and email, 400MB is quite a bit.

Actually, what about Google Maps? Can any current iPhone users comment on how much it is capable of eating up? Those images could probably start adding up pretty quickly, and I do want to use GPS.

I'm definitely not a fan of Rogers, I think these plans do sort of blow (especially the lack of Caller ID), but you people really need to put data usage in perspective.

Treatz, any news on buying the phone at full price and using the 30 meg plan? More importantly, will the option even exist to buy this phone out of the iPhone plans period (even at full price)?

Actually for hotspot access, you can use any of the carrier's hotspot (Telus,Bell, Rogers and Fido)... i use it all the time with my iPod Touch and there is no additional charges for it.. (my provider is Telus).

Though my opinion on the plans, they are a big disappointment and it strengthens the point rogers said earlier "We don't believe in unlimited plans". I just hope we are not restricted on these set plans. I rather pick a my5 plan and a separate data plan as i already have access to telus's data plan using my portable wifi router. But i know that's not going to happen.

I really hope with the wireless auction and a new provider emerging, we will once again see robbers having to compete with the competitors even more.

I am going to get the iPhone 3G... But i'll be getting the $60 plan.. It will still allow me to use the other services like Weather, light surfing, email... but for you tube, data intensive programs, i'll be linking it up with my evdo portable router...

I am a huge apple fan I have been waiting for the iPhone forever and now I have some real doubts that I will get one. There is no way I am going to get locked into that SH | T for 3 F-ING YEARS!!

IF YOU WORK FOR ROGER YOU NEED TO BE SENDING A STINK UP TO MANAGEMENT ABOUT THIS!!

I guess the case can be made that you can't under normal circumstances go over 750mb or 1gb of data, 400mb is useless.
