clueless on unlocking. Any help

Hi everyone.

I usually am into computers and technology but came across this... I'm lost

I bought a phone but is still locked.

It is a W580i that is serviced by rogers. I currently own the W300i with Fido...I'd like to use my new phone but have no idea to the first thing about unlocking phones

I've read so many threads on so many different sites and found them confusing.....I know maybe I won't get anything easier then what everyone is talking about but thought I'd give it a try and see if there is something easier to unlocking this phone


I asked a place at square one in miss. and they were charging me $55 to unlock...

I don't think i'd want to spend that much...I don't know how but please......some one lend me a helping hand...

Not sure myself on how to unlock a W580i but if you do a quick search here on the forums you should come up with some answers pretty fast

Some general ideas on unlocking procedures would be
A:Using SETool box or other combination methods (combination software hardware methods)
B:Patch unlocking (Through software and a cable as well as a patch to apply the unlock to your phone)
C: The contact point method (Where you actually short a tiny contact on the phones motherboard) <-- Not even all too sure about this one.. just saw people talking about it on a forum..

Not all phones can be done the same way though, I just patch unlocked my w300i myself the other day. Just took SETool 2 Lite (software) and the USB cable that came with the phone. Debranded from Rogers and unlocked

but do a search for W580i unlocking and you'll find something!

I called my service provider and asked for an unlock code. This is the simplest way.

Your service provider gives out unlock codes freely but some providers (such as the one used by the OP) do not give out the code under ANY circumstances.
