Question Changing phone number requires rate plan change?

I've been a T-Mobile subscriber since they launched in California. I recently moved to Seattle, and I just got around to calling T-Mobile to change my number to the local area code.

The rate plan I had in California was the "launch" plan, which was 1,000 Anytime + Unlimited Weekends for $39.99. I've also added the $2.99 unlimited nights and $2.99 T-Zones to my account.

I was told by the rep that there was no way that I could change my phone number to a 425 area code without changing the rate plan. Problem is, none of the rate plans at $39.99 come close to touching the plan that I've got now - I use nearly 1,000 daytime minutes, so that rules out the current plan for $39.99.

Is there something that the rep can do so I can keep my current plan? I don't recall seeing any such provision in my contract, but I can't be sure as I don't have it in front of me.

    Thanks,

    Mike

i do not think you can keep your current plan with your NON-CA phone number. if you are no longer using CA phone number, i guess you are out of luck because you do not belong in CA region thus the they will have to change your rate plan.

Its true. You have to choose a plan thats part of your market. I know AT&T does this too.

I guess it's ok as long as who ever calls you has long distance... most of the cell phones at least come with that now.

but personally i'd hold on to that plan... maybe keep calling CS and bugging them until they change it for you?

It's not just company policy, but the system will not allow a CA/NV Promo plan work with any other mobile phone#. As seniorstew says, call all you want, it will not change.

....and (for the most part) the only people affected by this are those in CA/NV, since that is the only areas in the last year or so where promotional national plans were offered that were different than what was available i nteh rest of the country......

I don't normally correct people's spelling, but to the T-Mobile Corporate Store guy, in your posting footer, the word is spelled:

    "Corporate"

That stinks... I was thinking about suggesting T-Mo for a buddy who moves around to different areas working with clients local to those areas (3-9 month assignment periods) because of the great deal on the 1000 anytime / 39.99 plan, but if that goes away then he'd be SOL if he ever wanted to switch markets. Hmm.. back to the drawing board

    Here's a twist:
What if you have a promo plan that is no longer avilable, but move to a different area code within the same region; then do you get to keep your plan?

yes, since you are still in that rate plans market.
