Fido SIM card in Rogers iPhone

Has anyone tried putting a Fido Sim card in a Rogers iPhone...the reason I ask is becasue my dad is eligible for an upgrade on his Rogers account so he's going to give me the phone to use on my Fido account.

My brother has an HTC touch that he got from Rogers and it works with my Fido Sim card and HAS NOT been unlocked...I tried putting an O2 card and it did not work...I think it might be because they are the same company so they stopped locking each others out but I'm not sure if this can be done with the iPhone...can anyone confirm?

What's the worst case scenario if I try it...will it brick my phone? Also, if my dad upgrades on his Rogers account, can my brother use it with his Rogers sim card at least if not my Fido one? Thanks.

I think someone mentioned here that when you activate the phone it activates and it will lock it at that time (ie at the store when you buy it), or something like that. so I assume they come unlocked then and just activate it at home using itunes. I would guess u would have it sent in the mail and not activated at the store then?
Im sure ppl will be testing this out as the days go by.

i read something before that it locks it to the individual sim card, and in order to put in ANY other sim card (even the same network) it has to be synced with itunes to change the lock to the new sim.

I believe that Fido/Rogers SIM-swapping only worked for certain data devices like HTC touch and Blackberries. iFido or shawndot or WorldIRC will have to confirm.

Yes, I think it does lock to the individual sim card but when I order it, they will be sending by mail so can I not just pop in my Fido sim card before I activate it with Itunes so that it locks to the fido sim instead of the rogers sim? I'm hoping that this is a special scenario with Fido and Rogers as I'm sure I could not do this with an AT&T phone and activate it with Fido on iTunes right?

Also, if I am able to do it, will I be able to add the $30/6GB data plan on the 3 year data contract without a 3 year agreement or will I need to sign a 3 year agreement as well? I am on City Fido and am not paying the SAF...will this be a problem in any way?

I'm curious about this too. A friend of mine is getting an iPhone from Rogers through a HUP, but he wants to use it on his Fido account. Any confirmation on whether the iPhone will lock with either Fido or Rogers depending on which one the phone is activated with?

I have an iPhone on Fido. When I put my Rogers SIM in (which is also active with data) I get a SIM card error.

So doesn't work.

but what about if the phone is not activated yet and you put a fido sim card there in there and activate it???

What about for those people who ordered their iPhone via HUP?

The phone wouldn't come activated would it? I thought it has to be done via iTunes?

Ya, it's just a matter of time before an unlock solution is available (ziphone anyone?). But i'm just wondering if iPhones from Rogers and Fido are actually unlocked to each other until they are activated.
