A couple weeks ago I got something called a "Player Error" when I was trying to listen to mp3s on my Env2. Now, these were all files that had worked fine previously. I think somehow something happened when I was connecting or disconnecting the phone from my pc. That's the only thing I can figure at least.
Anyways, I tried turning the phone off and then back on, but that didn't really help. I finally tried rebuilding the music database (takes a good 10-15 minutes) and that seemed to fix the problem. Everything was fine for a couple weeks until the same thing happened again today. The only thing I can gather is that I'm not disconnecting the phone from the pc correctly and that is somehow causing the mp3 player to freak out.
I used to get these errors all the time, but it was with the card/card reader setup. Reason I got it was because I didn't know I had to eject the card before pulling it out of the reader. The progress bar would be finished from the drag and drop of files, but it wouldn't work right if I didn't right-click the card drive, and left-click eject first.
Don't know if that has anything to do with it for your particular problem, but you might want to look into what specifically you need to do to get your home computer to release the phone before unplugging it.
I think you're right. I think it definitely has to do with the ejection process. I'm going to be extra careful with the way I dismount my phone from my PC from now on. Thanks for the reply.
The mp3 player does seem to be working fine now. I don't know what I did to get it back to normal, but I've had no issues since I posted this thread. I tried rebuilding the music database several times, as well as power cycling the phone and removing the battery. I also tried reconnecting it to the music manager software, and using the phone as a card reader. In other words, I tried everything. Some combination of those things seemed to fix the issue.
I think the disconnect process might vary based on how you're using the phone. If you're using it in conjunction with Verizon's music manger software, there is a disconnect button built in. After you click that, the phone will disappear from the music manager. You'll still need to close the connection on your phone, however.
On the other hand, if you're using the phone as a card reader, I'm pretty sure you can simply use the "remove device" option in windows. Again, even after you do that, make sure the connection is closed on the phone too. Other than that, I'm not sure what else there is to do... which is why I'm confused about this "Player Error."
UPDATE: My Player Error doesn't have anything to do with connecting and disconnecting the phone from the computer. Instead, it absolutely has to do with the way the phone accesses the SD card. Last night I was simply taking pictures with my phone, when all of a sudden I got an error message while the phone was trying to save a picture to the SD card. When I exited out of the camera, I noticed that my wallpaper had defaulted back to one of the preset wallpapers. Sure enough, when I closed the phone I noticed that the external wallpaper had also defaulted back the original factory setting. When I opened the phone back up, miraculously, my custom wall papers (which are stored on the card) had returned. Out of curiosity, I launched the mp3 player to see if that was still working. Nope. I'm getting the same Player Error again.
Interestingly, every time I launch the camera function an then exit out of it, my custom wall paper again disappears... but only until I close the phone and re-open it later. So to confirm that it was in fact the phone-card interface that was screwing things up, I went into the options menu and changed the settings to save pictures to the internal phone memory and bypass the card all together. Bingo. No more missing wallpapers.
So now I'm wondering what to do next. I could try a new memory card, but it would have to be 8 gigs AND I would have to fill it with at least 5.5 gigs of data because that's how much I have on there now. Needless to say, this is not a practical troubleshooting option. Besides, the card was brand new when I bought. Chances are, it's the phone not the card. I could contact Verizon, but something tells me no one there will have a clue what I'm talking about.
Wow, that's a tough one. Did you buy the phone and card at the same place?
I'd suggest you bring the phone back and ask them to try to duplicate the problem with another phone. If you can make it happen with your card, loaded with your media, in another phone, then you know it's a bad card. If not, have them replace the phone.
I did not buy the card at the Verizon store. The card is just an 8-gig SanDisk I bought on Amazon. The guy I got it from had a really high feedback rating and the card was brand new. That said, I suppose it could still be a bad card. Or, maybe it needs reformatting. But you're right, the next thing to do is to try to duplicate the problem on another phone.
I wonder if this could possibly be an issue with the way the ENV2 processes large amounts of data. Maybe an 8-gig card is more than the phone can handle. I mean, I know it's technically able to take a card that size, but maybe it's too much for the little guy.
how do i transfer song from computer to envy2? do you need special software? can i transfer songs from media player to computer?
Really all you need (despite what they'll tell you at Verizon) is a USB cable. Once you have that you can simply connect the phone to your computer and drag and drop mp3s onto it. just make sure you put the files in a folder called "my_music."
Also, make sure your files are at 192kbs or I don't think the env2 will be able to play them.
thanks for the help. i connected the usb cable to the phone. then i tried to sync with media player. it is not working. then i tried to drag the files, but computer is no showing usb as part of the computer. so finally i downloaded verizon media manager the dragged the songs. but it went to the phone. i was not able to move to the memory card. so i think verizon wants music to be downloaded from their media player
If you have a memory card, just use the card reader on your computer or printer, and drag and drop the files into the correct folders.
If your computer doesn't have those little slots, you can get a card reader with a USB plug on the end right at Radio Shack for $20. Computer stores and department store might even have it for less.
In my opinion, syncing is always a hassle. Just drag and drop.
Is this how you do it, a1rhendri1x? Just curious how many songs you can get on the phone?
I've done it both ways. (Drag and drop and Verizon's Music Manager software) Right now I have about 5.5 gigs of music on my phone. That's roughly 1,000+ songs. I still have about 2 gigs left, so I could probably squeeze another 500 or so depending on file sizes. I also have about 160 pics and 12 30-second videos. I just have a suspicion that the more data you cram onto the card the harder it is for the phone (with it's likely small amount of ram) to power through it.

Yeah, you shouldn't need to use the sync button if you're doing drag and drop. If your computer doesn't recognize the card in your phone, then you need to go into the tools menu and enable the USB auto detection.
When I plug in my sd reader and i open the music folder all my songs are there. (let's say 200) When I put the sd card back in my phone only about 75 are there. They are alll in the same folder on the card-makes no sense. What am I doing wrong or have I missed a step? These songs were added to the card at different times.
Thanks for any help..
