Ok, so this is the problem. If I call someone, while it is ringing, if I take the phone away from my face, the screen shows. This is good. Now, five minutes into the call, if I bring the phone away from my face, there is a black screen. The screen is just turned off. If I press the home button nothing happens, if I press the power/lock button, the call ends. How can I bring the screen up while I am on the phone once I bring it away from my face?
Is this a broken Iphone or some setting i do not know about?
No, the button at the top of the Iphone. The one that can lock your screen. That ends the call. The button under the screen, the "home" button, does nothing and the screen stays black.
Just tested it again, if I bring it away from my face, sometimes, it will turn on for a second and then turn off, as if there is a face next to it. Usually, no matter how slowly or quickly I bring it away form my face, it stays off.

Sounds like you might not be in a 3G area.... or... 3G isn't kicking in... Voice + Data at the same time is only going to work with a region that is 'wired' for 3G... (so to speak) the older technology doesn't allow voice + data to happen at the same time.
