The thing that might speed up adoption is that Southern Illinois is now part of the St. Louis market and the St. Louis market is one of the best in the country for 3G coverage.
I heard that Paducah, which is just south of you guys, won't be getting it until at least May of 2009. My friend who is a Verizon sales rep. was eating this up, since they have had their 3g here for nearly a year.
Also, Southern Illinois has NO buyer for the old Alltel (AT&T and US Cellular both punted at buying the old First Cellular that was taken over by Alltel). Personally, I wish AT&T would just buy the 850 mhz bandwidth in that area and the former Alltel subscribers could just go to Verizon.
If Ganikowski(sp??>) the new FCC guy is smart, that's what he would let happen.
Cape Girardeau is up and running. Flipped the switch on Friday for 3g!
Awesome! I am getting my 3GS on Tuesday so lets's just hope that they get Paducah and Marion on line soon.
Cheers,

Apple iPhone: I use this phone for play when I should be working.
WM: I use this phone because I love pinwheels, resets, task managers, editing registries, and waiting.
Nokia S60: I use this phone to work while I am sitting in the sauna joking with my buddies about how stupid Americans are because they won't pay $800 for a Nokia smartphone.
