    zsrelay iphonemodem vs PDAnet

Right now I'm using zsrelay's iphonemodem on my pwned 2.1 3G. Dead simple to set up and will operate in the background on the phone. Problem is I can only connect using safari. Will PDAnet allow me to use other programs, like an ftp program? Or does anyone have a suggestion regarding zsrelay's iphoneModem?

PS I'm on Mac OS 10.5.5.

PDAnet will allow you to use everything and is sooo easy to use. I am also on 10.5.5.

I have been using this software for years on my WM phones.

Has there been any recent talk if PDAnet will be accepted into the app store?

P.S. So do I have to jailbreak the iPhone 3G if I have an officially unlocked phone (imported and off the grid)? Or can I install apps via the usb cable without hinderance?

The only talk I've heard, and this was a few of weeks ago, was that AT&T was working on its own tethering app, that would cost an additional $30/month on top of what ever you're already paying.

If this rumor is true, don't expect any other tethering app to show up in the app store.

the original thread should be updated with PDANET, because all the other original methods are archaic and a waste of time if you dont read the end of the thread first.

Thinking about getting iphone w/ att.. 2 years ago verizon was the only service available but now the contract is ending and would like to leave since ATT has expanded due to cingular merger and I'm also moving out where ATT service is great. I have a few questions...

Okay so with jailbreaked iphone on PdaNet, I can use iphone wifi to tether my Windows XP at home if I get 3G here? Therefore won't need a laptop connect PC card at all with an iphone correct? According to coverage map on ATT.com, it is blue on 3G and shows Good reception (2nd darkest orange). Is this accurate measure or did you guys find that it said there is coverage, but didn't get it?

If this is true, then that solves all my problems. I'm going to grad school out of state, need music player, phone, organizer, epocrates software, and internet when I'm on vacation. The iphone will be able to do all of the above if it actually works.

I'm worried that while this works now... it might not work in the future. Is it safe to say that once it works it will continue to work?

It will work, but if tethering your iPhone is gonna be your primary Internet source, no peer-to-peer, large files, porn, etc for you. But if you're a light surfer and only use the Internet for a few things and check your email, it would work fine.
