a couple other cool programs...
qSMS: qSMS is a simple application that assigns a keyboard shortcut for text messages and allows you to use the ‘Q’ from the home screen as a shortcut to compose an SMS (must have home screen dialing set to off)
Max Mem: Frees up to 5MB of memory on your BlackBerry no matter what the type! Not only does it release memory, you will also feel a slight increase in response time. MaxMem will remove apps, themes, and files in your BlackBerry that you don’t use (you have the option to remove whatever you want).
You can download them in the Apps section OTA by loading mobile.blackberrytrade.com on your device.

Remember, no warez.
Here are a few useful apps I've had installed at various times:
Viigo: you can customize dozens of internet feeds based on your interests.
Vlingo: Voice-activated text messaging. This is a pretty cool app, but I think it takes a while to get used to your voice. You can come up with some pretty amusing results when you first start using it.
Opera Mini: Probably the best free browser available. I don't use it that much on my Pearl, because the BB browser actually works well for me. But it does render some sites (the full version of HoFo, for example) better than the BB browser.
Google Maps: Since I have yet to get the Blackberry Maps application to work on my Pearl for more than about 5 minutes, this makes a good substitute. It uses cell sites to triangulate position, so it's not "true" gps, but it's good for general location information and searches.
All of these are free downloads. There are a number of good applications available for purchase, obviously, but I'll stick with free for now.
Here are some cool programs i've put on it (all free unless indicated):
AutoLock i used to use this, but now I use AutoStandby
AutoStandby This is a must have program, it vastly improves battery life. definitely worth the $5.
Viigo use this if you like RSS feeds.
Vlingo pretty good voice recognition program, i use it to text people when i drive.
Weatherbug Direct this puts two icons on your home screen, one that shows current temp, and one that shows the forecast.
Beyond411 great program to find businesses, and it works with GPS
Nav4all I haven't used this much...lots of options, turn by turn voice directions.
Google Maps obviously...
GetItBack link goes to the berry review page. this program is awesome if you ever lose your phone. it's amazing what you can do. probably worth the $10 investment.
Opera Mini
ESPN mobile
Windows Live Messenger
Sudoku the free version works fine for me.

SoftReset! A must for Pearl owners. It's at Geekandproud.net. Oh, berryNES is also entertaining for short periods of time.

I've also had a lot of fun with Geocache Navigator, what a great program! It has a 60 day free trial, $40/yr. spontaneous geocaching is fun!

BBlight
I can't remember the link to it. Google it and I'm sure you'll find it. It's an app that lights up the backlight when you receive a text. I find it pretty handy. FYI, you need version 1.85 if you have the BB Curve.
