Nevertheless this is concerning to me and I appreciate you posting about it.

I hope if anyone else has been contacted by TELUS regarding overusage of the unlimited connect plans they will come forward and report it here.

We need to nip this thing in the bud. TELUS is and was known as the better data provider, and if they're changing on us we need to let the public know. I'm sick of jumping around from one provider to the other because they decide all of the sudden unlimited is not unlimited. When LTE comes out and we have 100 Mbps wireless data, how are we going to be expected to keep to only 10 or 20 gigs per month? Things are going upward, especially with Rogers of all companies offering 6 GB for $30. For $75 or $100 we should easily be getting 15 or 20 GB per month for what we pay, and unlimited is designed so that one month you may only use 1 or 2 gigs but the next you use 30 or so...that's life and unlimited should allow us that flexibility.
I'm just outside of Barrie, Ont (100km north of Toronto).
Is there any way to tell what network I'm connected to?

$75 was a bit expensive, but because I thought unlimited meant "unlimited", I went for it. Sounds like they've oversold their network capability and are starting to squeeze people. The way the Telus guy was talking, it seemed to me that either I move to the other plan or they may terminate the contact. He didn't actually say that, but it seemed to be the tone of his talk.

Can they do this? I'm thinking they would need to produce evidence?

i'm not worried .. been using 20-40gbs per month since i got this plan, as have my friends when they got their connect 75. hell even my parents have a connect 75 subscription for their farm (only High speed available in there area, except crappy satelite )

everyone i know on this plan uses at least 5gb per month, some exceeding 50gb + . i have not heard of anyone getting calls or letters yet, and i would not expect that to happen. we were all assured, with notes on the accounts .... that unlimited = unlimited. period.

I personally would not be worried, but i guess we will see what happens in the next few months. If telus does start to crap on myself or others that i put on this plan, then there's going to be hell to pay.

If they can't provide "unlimited" data then they shouldn't try to offer it.

I believe the OP. I think it could be a new thing from Telus. Telus is the only carrier that offer "unlimited data" right now so I suspect they are going to start going after network hogs. Maybe there will be a 10 gb ceiling as mentioned in previous threads which would be more than enough for 99% of data card users. Its the 1% of users using 99% of the data.

That's why it's important to shut these anal intruders down! We cannot let them use fear and intimidation tactics to make us not USE what we've PAID FOR.

Seriously, if they keep trying this we have to turn it into a PR disaster for them. It's the only way to get these salad tossers to play fair.

Perhaps the original financials on an unlimited plan assumed that roaming revenue from Bell customers on Telus would balance out the costs for Telus customers roaming on Bell. Now that Bell has cancelled the accounts of their high usage users the financial assumptions used to budget the plan have been changed. Now Telus has to follow Bell and cancel the accounts of Telus customers who primarily roam on the Bell network since the roaming situation has been thrown out of balance.

Just a guess but it's a possibility to consider. Native coverage users wouldn't be contacted if this possibility is true.

As for how to check which network you are using it would require you to check the SID reported in a test mode of your phone or card. To find this would be different on every device. For example on my blackberry I dial #HELP* and a status screen comes up with the current SID.

We think everyone should be able to afford a wireless phone. That's why we were the first wireless company in North America to offer pay-by-the-second airtime, and why we don't charge an activation fee. NO scary contract to sign. Immediate national coverage. And a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Yes, it's finally time to get a wireless phone.

Has anyone else here receive any warning phone calls/letters?

I've used over 1TB and nothing here yet.

    You and me both!

The thing I don't get is why he didn't receive a phone call or a letter for that kind of usage. That's over 16 times the bandwidth that I'm aloud on my WIRED connection at home in a month!
