Official Bell HTC Touch Update (WM6.1/GPS/Rev A) NOW Released

Weeks after Telus released their official ROM, Bell now has released their own, and although some of you have already installed cooked ROM's, this official one is what I and some of you have been waiting for.

You can download this release here
And here are the instalation instructions

Adds EVDO Rev. A capability for faster download and upload speeds*
Upgrades to the latest Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system.
Add support for location based services using Bell’s GPS Nav application**
Add support for Live TV & Satellite Radio service** (coming soon)
Improves overall device functionality and stability.

    * EV-DO Rev. A is network dependent and may not be available in all areas.
** Features may require subscription to Bell Mobility services. Contact Bell Mobility Customer Service for details.

It goes without saying that if you already have a 'cooked' ROM with GPS when installing this Bell ROM you will no longer have your 'cooked' ROM and will therefore have to pay to use the GPS feature from Bell at a cost of $3.50/day or $8.00/month if you choose to use this feature. I guess Bell figured people were using other ROM's to enable GPS and that people were using it so why not enable GPS and charge money for it, same for the TV and Satellite Radio.

When installing this ROM I noticed all my photos and videos were not removed, but for some unknown reason my videos are under 'Music' on the Touch Flow cube and launch under Bell's media Player. However all programs, notes and other information will be lost so backup your Touch using Active Sync before you install this ROM.

A noticeable increase in speed [Rev. A] on the internet is apparent. You can test your speed here
However the results are not consistent probably due to the site being busy at the moment but my highest speed so far was 982kbps.

Sweet, it's not a radio downgrade from most cooked roms, meaning everyone can flash this release without worry.

I currently use TomTom and Google Maps. I can continue using these with the Touch's internal GPS with no charge right?

The highest radio version available right now is 3.42.30 this radio is 3.42.50 so minor difference most likely(Though PPC geeks say it may not be) but will install over any unlocked radio currently available.

Finally!!! ive been checking htc alsmost every other day!!! but missed it yesterday!
I wonder why would ppl use BELL's Paid GPS when you can download google GPS for free ?

So I i get it straight as long as you use your own GPS software, MS Street and Trips. TT, iGuidance... you shouldnt incur any charges , right?

    Thanks

There is no charge for those applications only when you click on the GPSNav icon and only if you agree to the fees. If you already have TomTom, Google Maps, or other GPS applications you will not be charged.

Successfully flashed to the new rom! Was previously using NFSFAN's rom. Looking good so far... I'll post GPS result as soon as I can.

    Finally!!!

This will be done this evening!
A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.

I seem to be stuck on 1X with the new rom. Anyone else?

    EDIT: Nevermind, it's fine...
