Unlimited On-device browsing is only on Fido certified phones.
Nokia maps can be download and you can load full maps so that you don't need to connect for data to view that location.

I'm thinking of getting an unlocked Nokia E71 and moving from Bell to Fido in the coming weeks.
What I need
I don't need to get a data plan as I won't be using this phone for email very often. But I'd appreciate unlimited browsing abilities, text-messaging and IM functions. Other options I'd like are Caller ID and Voice Mail. Would like to keep the monthly bill under $60.00
I have a few questions for the knowledgeable people in here.
1. What Fido plan do you suggest would fulfill my needs?
2. Does the unlimited browser include access to YouTube, Facebook, Message Boards and such sites?
3. Is the credit check a mandatory step in the activation process? (Even for non-contract customers)
4. Once downloaded, are Nokia Maps free-of-charge to use? (Instead of paying a monthly fee for GPS services)
5. What do you dislike the most about Fido services?
I appreciate your opinions. Thanks in advance.![]()

1. price plan is to suit your needs
2. no it does not, only fido branded phones...No grey market/smartphones period
3. from my understanding fido does do credit checks (sin/drivers lic..etc)
4. you can use Nmaps but not voice turn by turn and not directions, over functions do work.
5. that rogers took them over and changed the face of fido
1. I'm not sure what plan suits your needs since it is based on usage. Do you plan on using your phone mostly for outgoing calls or for incoming calls? Do you want unlimited evenings/weekends... early evenings? etc.
2. Yes but it won't work with your phone since it is not a Fido branded phone.
3. Yes, all monthly plans go through a credit check... I believe all cellphone carriers in Canada/US do this. The only way of avoiding a credit check is to go prepaid.
4. Yes, Nokia Maps is completely free as long as you download the program and the associated maps for your area and you are not interested in turn by turn instructions. Think of Nokia Maps as the maps that are shown in shopping malls where it shows a red dot that says "You are here".
5. I have no major problems with Fido but if I had to say something, I would say the non ability to turn off the roaming in the Rogers enhanced network and the fact that they send the name with the caller ID information (and if you want the name removed, you also have to block the number as well).
Fido (monthly plan - personal/data):Novatel Wireless MC950D or Nokia CS-18
Rogers (pay as you go - Canadian prepaid): "Fido" LG Nexus-4
Rogers (monthly BIS data plan): Blackberry Q10
Red Pocket Mobile (US prepaid): Sony-Ericsson c510 or Sony-Ericsson w300i
T-Mobile (US prepaid): unlocked Fido iPhone 3GS 32GB or "Fido" Samsung Nexus-S

What can't you do with the browsing option? Can you not download an mp3 off a public website? Is e-mail checking blocked?
