    Question about Buying Unlocked V9

I currently have a Razr V3 (old matte black version, from 2-3 years ago). I am looking to buy an unlocked V9 Graphite Grey from 2 websites because I hate the hideous red color of the v9 offered by at&t.

my question is: will I experience any problems with the sim card from my old V3 if I try to put it in the new V9? I'm assuming I will, so my next question is, Do the unlocked phones come with their own sims? Any other problems I may experience with a V9 purchased online?

No matter what version of the V9 you get, it will work with AT&T and its SIM cards, but only if it's unlocked, like you specified.
V9s are ALL quad-band, the only difference (HK version, EU version, and US version), is the color and the 3G bands, and the external screen functions.

If you have a really old SIM card in your V3 right now, you might need to upgrade to the newest one to use it in you V9.

But that's free of charge, provided that you take a little drive down to your local AT&T corporate store, or call in and have them ship you one.

But SIM cards shouldn't pose a big problem. The only problem would be if you want to use 3G, because the EU and HK versions, while they have a nice color and provide external touch screen functions, do not have US 3G bands.
    Anything is possible...
If you just get the right customer service rep.

    Yes...Except for one exception.
If you get a Rogers branded V9 from Canada, it will be graphite gray but have North American 3G bands.

But you'd have to unlock and if you want, unbrand it.

    So it's your choice.
Or you could wait for the V9x.

Blackengaard really hit the nail on the head with what you really need to do and look out for.

The bottom line with the 3G and the phone itself is to call the retailer before placing the order. Ask them if the phone is 3G compatible? (also make sure your area has 3G coverage as well - since not all areas support 3G just yet) Another thing that may or may not be important to you is if the phone has Chinese symbols on the keypad. This doesn't affect the functionality, but for me if I am going to throw $$$ down on a phone I want it without the characters. (just my own personal preference) and many retailers won't mention it on their website.

Best of luck on your search and purchase.

It's kinda weird that Rogers calls their V9 the V2.

8th Row Down on the Right

To me it kinda feels like you are about to buy a RAZR2 AKA V8, yet it has the features of the V9.

thanks for the clarification... I've unlocked and modded my current V3, so I wont have any problem unlocked the v9. I live in the the NYC and Philly area, so I have 3G.

however, i've tried searching but haven't been able to find any specific Rogers Grey V9s online (without a contract). If anyone can point me in the right direction (via PM or here), please do so. Thanks for the help so far!

Look in the Buy/Sell/Trade section of the forums here; I've seen a few in the past.
eBay is also somewhat of a good source, although Rogers V9s are hard to come by on there.

Buy the V9 from atgsm.com, its not AT&T 3G, but you get external screen functions like the V9m
