These instruction are great for setting up Bitpim. NOTE[U]
Before you start anything or start messing with the phone:
Backup your tree, (Left click). Then back up your Brew file. If you mess up the phone, you can reinstall it. If you mess up on an app, you can reinstall and start over.

    1. Install the latest version of Bitpim

    2. Download the LG USB Drivers here: http://members.driverguide.com/driv...driverid=602944

Don't buy them, just view the ads. They take seconds to skip through.

    3. Unzip the files and put them all in one folder. There will be a setup.exe and three folders. Run the Setup.exe. You should get a message saying they were successfully installed. You don't need the files after this. Feel free to delete them.

    4. Plug your phone into your computer via the USB cord. The tiny front screen of you phone will ask you if you wish to connect your phone to the PC via USB. Select "NO". Your phone should go back to its regular screen with the time and stuff being shown. Now leave the phone alone.

    5. Start up BitPim. Run "edit/detect phone". It should detect an "other CDMA phone" or something along those lines. Click ok and go to Edit/Settings.

    6. inside the settings menu, click the button that says "Phone Wizard". It'll bring up a new window. Select the VX-8800 as your phone model. Click next. It'll then ask you to choose a COM port. Just select "Auto" and click next. From here just click finish. Finish or close the settings menu.

    7. You should be on the standard BitPim window now. Click on "File system" from the tree branch on the left. In the next column over, click on the + symbol next to the folder icon. Give it a moment to read your phone. After a few seconds, your phones entire file system should be open. From there it's happy sailing. You can follow my other guide on this page to get Opera running, or you can add some ring tones. WHatever you do from here is up to you :P Just be careful when mucking with the phones file system.

PS: A power cycle just means you turn the phone off and on. typicaly when adding ringtones, you add the ringtone, delete the "Myringtone.dat" from the dload folder, power cycle the phone, and they should show up.

    I need a Telnet

Been an avid reader of this forum for quite some time, since I got my Keybo. I can use Bitpim to access ringtones and filesystem, ect

What I need is a Telnet client that works on my phone. I've found two websites that offer a dedicated telnet client as a .JAR, and I'm able to get them transferred to my phone, replacing a game .jar instead

Neither one will connect, though. The first gives me a 'cannot access restricted API' type of message, the other just says unable to connect

this is the first, that gives me the API error: http://xk72.com/midpssh/download.php
and here's the other one: http://www.mutelnet.com/muTelnet-2_0_1.zip

No luck getting in contact with the developers; Do I need to edit the _policy.txt file to allow midlets to access the internet? Or should I overwrite a .jar that may already have permission to access the net(the game I overwrote initially clearly isn't) I just didn't want to have to pay for a navigator or Messenger-type of program.

I'm a Telus sales rep(3rd party, not corporate), so I might be able to offer some assistance in return, thanks guys.

Tried overwriting a messenger app(instead of a game) with the Midpssh .JAR; Now in the settings it has 'always allow' under the net access option. It skips the previous error, but after saying connecting... it boots me out and presents me with the following error:

    javax.microedition.io.ConnectionNotFoundException

What would you do under the Verizon network?

If you want Opera on this phone and your under the Telus network, just do this:

    1. Download the generic Opera Mini Advanced (NOT BASIC!) browser

    2. Follow the instructions on the first page of this thread to get into the file system

    3. Open Brew/ams

    4. You should be faced with several folders here that are numbered. This is where you're going to have to decide which java program to overwrite. Personally I just overwrote the Telus navigator since I'll never use the bugger. If you can't figure out what's what since everything is labeled by numbers and not names, save out the folders .Jad file to the desktop or something. Open the file with Wordpad. Within the first 10-20 lines of text, you should see the description of what program the .jad is for. #12 on my phone turned out to be Telus Navigator. #11 was Telus Mobile music.

    5. Once you've picked out which program to overwrite, rename the Opera .jad and .jar files to whatever number the program is on your phone. Drag and drop the opera files into the folder on the phone. They should overwrite them, and you'll see their size value change.

    6. You don't even have to turn off your phone. Go to whichever program it was that you overwrote. It'll have the same name and icon as it always did, but when you open it it should run whatever program you replaced it with. My Telus Navigator thing now loads Opera Mini

    Hope that helps!

    RE; szakharin

Probaly very similar; What do you see in the filesystem for your phone? Do you have a small list of folders labeled 11, 12, 13, ect, with files in them including a 13.JAR, for example?

not quite. But I do think that in the brew directory, mod replaces ams for VZW. In the mod directory, there are numbered directories, but no jar files in them. I'm a bit confused as to how to proceed. There are .sig and .mod files. Anyone know how to adapt the above for VZW?

    Ringtone Volume

TIP OF THE DAY: Ringtone Volume

Ok, you have your ringtones set up on your phone, but you discover you have a problem. Some ringtone are too low, and some ringtone so high and they sound like they’re going to blow your speakers.

Go to this sight and download this free program called MP3Gain: http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/download.php.

Install it and run the program. Open up the file, using MP3Gain, on your computer where you have your ringtone stored. It will show you the volume of each of your ringtone.

Go to your phone and play your ringtones and pick the ringtone that is the right volume.
Go back to the program and find out what that ringtone db volume is set at. Now reset the target volume and apply to all your ringtones.

When this is done, open your phone up. Delete you’re your Ringtones and reinstall them.

They should be reset to the volume you want play at.

I was told with the unlimited browser option we have that youtube videos are not included (i realize that with opera mini this would bypass the charge)

    Don't believe what you hear

It's funny but alot of the people(and some in general)that work for these phone companies have no idea what they are talking about.I mean I bought the Keybo at Christmas time for $180 and that included phone, usb cord,sd card, recharger cord and phone cover.I have a friend who has a $600 dollar Blackberry and my phone does almost the same things for a 1/3 of the cost. It's great to have site's like this because with a little know how and reading you can add extra bells and whistles to your phone free of charge.Hey if am wrong(please correct me)but for now I have'nt been charged extra for youtube videos.

P.S.I also just use yahoo and hotmail for e-mails.I have'nt bothered with g-mail and have also had no problems with e-mails as well. The Keybo is a wicked little phone and can be hacked very easily.Happy hacking.
