I keep getting "non-drm protected file " error when i try and set it as ringtone in the phone.

anyone got a fix or did i miss something

did you remember to power cycle the phone?

My system is running XP and using the regular LG USB modem drivers, which i will link to later in this post, and bitpim official version 1.0.5 I was able to crack the filesystem and set my own ringtone. Here's how...

1) You'll need to download the lastest version of Bitpim, google it, i'll leave it there. Install it.

2) Next you'll need to download and extract the LG Modem Drivers.

Get it here

Extract onto desktop or wherever you want.

3) Plug in your phone, DO NOT HIT YES WHEN IT ASKS YOU TO CONNECT USB TO COMPUTER. This will then force the COM connection open and ask for drivers. Point it to the area where you extracted your drivers. It will install three drivers and then be done.

4) Start up Bitpim and go to settings. Run phone wizard and select verizon wireless > LG > VX8800 (Venus)

5) Next it will ask for a COM port to connect to. You want to choose the 'LG USB Serial Port' mine came up as COM12 but yours will most definatly be different.

6) Don't bother detecting the phone once you hit next, it won't work. Just finish the wizard and click ok on the setting dialog box. Next go to the filesystem icon on the left then on the next pane over hit the plus sign.

LET BITPIM READ THE FILESYSTEM, THIS TAKE A WHILE, BE PATIENT!

7) Go to brew > shared > ringtone

8) right click on the pane to the right, select New File.

9) Choose your MP3, let it load. Then power cycle your phone.

10) ENJOY!

Any question I will try and answer. This is usually the easiest method for ringtones. Enjoy Kids!

Hi I tried following your instructions using the Bitpim and 2 things happened, first the phone would find the ringtone, but then when i go to set it, it will say non-drm protected file. the 2nd thing that happened was that I would powercycle and then the ringtone would be gone? Do you know why this would be happening? Thanks a lot! Also do you have any clue as to how to load games onto the phone, like .jar files? Thanks!

so I thought it might of been because I unplugged the phone from the computer because the file keeps disappearing but thats not the case as i tried keeping the phone plugged into the usb and powercycling and its still not working.

yep power cycled and still having the issue

ya ive noticed a lot of sites arent really compatible with this phone even ones not using flash.

actually one thing i forgot to mention is that since i did that bitpim thing for the ringtone, it actually cleared all of the files in my memory card.

I can confirmed that ringtone works with bitpim.

Bitpim version: 1.0.6.20080630 - Test
LG venus driver

Let Bitpim detects the com port first, then choose phone model as LG-VX9100. Load the mp3 file to /Brew/Shared/ringtone

Power cycle the phone.

I use boot camp running XP and that's worked great for me. The LG Modem Drivers are Windows only as far as I know.

Also to anyone who is having a DRM issue...
Upon looking at my phone's filesystem I found under the dload folder a myringtons.dat file. Maybe deleting that file and rebooting would take care of any authorization issues we're having. Of course backup the file first before you delete. I'm not 100% sure the phone will recreate it upon power cycling.

I looked at myringtones.dat file in my phone and all that was in it was specific references to the ringtones I added myself so this might be the answer you guys with DRM issues are looking for.

Also, under flash > ui > wallpaper I found the animated wallpapers, they are in .swf format so anyone who knows adobe flash should be able to make their own animated wallpapers and drop them there. I have still yet to test this.

also in the past (for other LG) some people add this error because the size of the ring tone was to big so try to reduce it and see what happen

First time I've really used a bitpim, so I'm in the same boat as riley, how do I access the .Dat file to delete it?
