Ok, my friend just got a 50$ plan: 700 minutes, e&w, and he only has to pay system access fees for a year!!? Is that even possible? and he can just switch plans after a year.
I was offered the same kind of plan as well just yesterday for both my partner and myself. I called 4 times in 2 days and the first three offers were OK but the 4th time was the charm! I explained that I am with Rogers and still under contract for 7 more months and she offered us this plan:
$45 plan
Rate Plan:
- 700 anytime mins
-unlimited evenings and weekends starting at 8pm until 7am
-call waiting
-conference calling
-voicemail
-telus to telus
-1st yr 100% discount on rate plan
-$140 bill credit, to compensate for termination fees with rogers
Rate plan $45 -$45
Ulimited Net $15
SAF $7.70
Total for first year $22.70 plus tax
The best part is I can at any time switch to a cheaper plan with no penalty and keep my $15 a month unlimited internet add-on. I was even offerd a corporate type EPP plan that I can switch to that will be noted in my account... BYE BYE ROGERS! Hello HTC Diamond!

I just want to make a quick statement about something i found out by mistake.
L&R is not just for phoning and trying to get a great deal.
They are regular CSR's as well.
Maybe it's just me, but I did not realize this at first.
One day after getting my invoice from telus and finding a bunch of screw ups....
I was trying to call them on the regular CSR line...
My wait time was over 20 minutes...
Once i got connected, I first got someone who was obviously new.
He was completely useless. ( not his fault, but not what I needed )
I hung up, called back, waited 30 minutes, then got bumped.
Did it again, waited my 20 min, and got booted again.
OK, i had enough!!
Didn't want to - but I used the L&R #.
No waiting.
Got a rep right away.
Rep was very helpful.
Fixed my bill.
Made sure that some stuff I was being charged for was removed.
And actually changed something on my plan that I was told I was going to have to pay for, and gave it to me for free.
Then helped me to add my new plan to my 3rd line and change a couple things to suite that one. This ended up saving $15 a month on that line.
The bottom line is that if ever have anything that I need help with, I will now only call L&R.
Let the general public sit on hold and deal with 1 st line csr's.
I may or may not be sticking with Telus because apparently their Instinct capabilities are crippled, but this is what I got if anyone else wants to negotiate:
4 years with Telus
For $17.30 + tax/month:
- 300 daytime minutes
- unlimited evenings/weekends starting at 6pm
- caller ID
- voicemail 10
- unlimited text
- unlimited mobile browser
- system access fee
- handset swap fee
I have to say that Telus is pretty good in what they might be able to offer so it's always worth a shot on asking for these things. What was annoying was that they weren't so willing to budge on any smartphones, but if you're going for a normal PCS phone, then there's more leeway.
It probably helped that I have a good corporate plan with Bell that I was able to get Telus to match! :P
Also, edit from my previous post:
At the Telus store they said I could get free phone upgrade (blackberry pearl) with pay per use data.
After I got the phone, a few days later, I decided to phone up retentions one more time to confirm my plan. Long story short, they could not "unlink" data from the smartphone. So, after quite a long time on the phone, I was able to squeeze an unlimited data plan for 15.00. So, my plan looks like this:
-300 daytime minutes
-Unlimited weeknights/ weekends (weeknights from 6pm)
-Call display/ ID
-Call waiting/ conferencing
-Voicemail
-250 outgoing texts/ unlimited incoming
- 75 mins Canadian long distance
- Unlimited data (browsing, email, etc - normally $30.00 plan)
$45.00 all in
on top of that, I got the $25.00 initial activation (phone upgrade) waved and 50% off my base plan (i.e. $17.00) for 3 months.
I got 2 blackberry for mike after 6 month they switch me to telus for free with 2 htc touch for free
