Does anyone have any tips?
I want to go to Rogers or Telus for there student plans....With Telus I want the Diomand and the student plan $50 BUT I want CID/VM/Texts included (as freebies). I have heard of people getting these types features for free when signing up..I called telus today..was on hold for about half hour than couldn't wait much longer so just hung up.
Is it worth me trying to get the extras, some people here say it is possible to get a couple of things, especially if you want data or will Telus just say not until you have been with us a while?? If I mention the Rogers student plan which which is $25 that has some incoming minuts included will they even care, plus the CID/VM/TEXTS/WAP browsing for $10 with the student plan will that help me? I remember reading a forum here or on RFD's on someone who got the deal I am looking for , he had an actual store call retentions for him when signing up...is that something i should look at as well?
If I do end up paying for the extras the plan is just over $80 (50 +15 + 6.95 +.5 + tax) which IMO is too much to spend on a phone.
Also with Telus if I do order something on the Phone, can I go to an actual store to pick it up or do they have to mail it to you, and what is the general wait time before you can talk to retentions about getting other credits on your plan? I know with Rogers its at about the 6 month mark.
Also what is the number most people use to call in, is there a 416 # for toronto for example so I don't have to be on hold for some time.
I was in a similar situation to you. I called Telus a number of times over the last week and managed to get the Student 50 Plan, with the $0 BlackBerry Pearl. They gave me Caller ID and Voicemail 10 for the duration of my three year contract. I tried pushing for some free texts, but they said that CID and VM is already a pretty big freebie for a new customer.
My friend however, called the same agent and was able to get the same deal as me, but with the addition of 250 free sent texts. However he has been with Telus for several years, and played the "I've been a loyal customer, how come I'm only getting the same deal as a new customer?"
If you negotiate over the phone, they will need to mail it to you. I ordered on Monday, and it came Wednesday afternoon (I'm in NS). So it's pretty quick. Unfortunately, you can't just walk in to a store and ask them to give you a deal you negotiated via telephone sales.
I found that when I called in the mornings, the time spent on hold was much lower. (<10 mins) In the afternoons and on Saturday, the times get really long.
I have just over 1 month left on my 3 year contract. I have been with Telus since 1996.
Current Plan:
EPP 17.30
200 mins
6pm-7am ul evenings/weekend
VM3
CID
Total price: $28
What I am able to get in addition to what I currently have if I sign another contract:
150 bonus minutes (total would be 350)
250 outgoing & ul incoming txt
ul web browsing
waive the activation fee if i get a new phone (i have paid this fee on all my renewals)
I am interested in the Samsung Instinct. They are only able to offer me two options:
(1) $179 for the phone on a 3 year contract (aquisition pricing) or
(2) $129 for the phone plus I have to have bundle 15 for min of 3 months (promotional pricing).
What should I do? Can I get the phone for cheaper (for example employee or friend pricing of $69.99)?
Telus client since 1996 will guarantee the Samsung Instinct for acquisition pricing, waive the activation fee and your contract is up. No problems.
You'll get 250 text, VM10 with a little nice talk and if your persistent they give you the option of "100 minutes bonus" or "Telus to Telus bonus" options.
But NO FREE DATA
As a customer service rep put it "You've been with Telus long than I've been employed with them. That hard to find in this industry." But don't ask for the free data, that when the trouble starts.
11 year with Telus / 3 years with ClearNet
2 Lines @ EPP $17.30 + $15 Unlt'd Personal Email & IM 15 (Old Plan) + $0 (Loyalty T2T) + $6.95 (SAF) + $0.75 (911) + TAX =)
I would like to get the Samsung Instinct for cheaper than $179 which they have offered. Why is new activations getting it for cheaper at $129? I tried to get unlimited income but she refused and said it will cost me $10. Also, what does it mean by free DATA at$15 or $30 more per month? I am able to get ul web browsing? Does this not include email etc. Please explain the difference? thanks
So has anyone had any luck as a new customer on the student 35 dollar plan. I like the instinct and I like the plan. I just don't like the 15 bucks extra for VM/caller ID. Has anyone had any luck sweet talking VM and/or caller ID and say 100 sent/received text?
is calling the 1877 number for L&R free from telus phones, or should i call *611 and ask for L&R?
I spoke to *611 they will lock me in for 3years but I get the new cust price on a phone so a diamond will cost me 150, not bad not great.
I would call l&r at 1877 if you seriously need to work out a deal, if not *611 they can do some things.
Hell call both call *611 then call l&r if you dont like it. Keep calling too I hear they log everything...

I got mine for $100 from L&R..
They do require appears to get some $15 bundle for the Instinct, but I was exempt.
You gotta buy a bundle for the web/email/IM etc, or pay 5cents per web, or $7 unlimited, I got $5 from L&R, only option on my plan I paid so far.
I ported my wife over to Telus 2 billing cycles ago. I didn't sign a contract as we were considering a move and didn't want to get locked in. Looks like we're not moving for at least 12 months so might be willing to sign for 1 year. Only other thing that gives me pause is being locked into CDMA handsets (my wife loves the E71) so will try to leverage Rogers as well (hate them vs. Telus, but ...)
Anyway, the key advantage of Telus was the $15 unlimited email and IM on her HTC Touch. The question is, can I get at least unlimited internet (including browsing) for the same $15 from L&R? (Yes, I know...I can "just try"...but looking for a sense of what is reasonable).
100 mins, 1000e/w mins
bundle 15 free
unlimited local calling, 3 months free
for $20 + fees/taxes ~= $31
Did you get the Instinct through L&R? If so, any discount? I tried getting a discount off it yesterday, and the rep told me he couldn't negotiate the price of the phone at all, it wasn't under his control.
Called telus about my issue i posted about a couple days ago.. she told me they cannot offer me a discount off any phone unless I have tried at least 3 times to repair my old one. She gave me free all ID for THREE months...... what the heck are you guys doing to get such good deals?
She did ask me how I am finding my bill.. but I havent gotten a bill with the new data device yet, So I told her i'm not sure how it's gonna go yet.

Unfortunately I couldn't get anything off on the instinct. They told me that the demand was too high for them to give me that kind of discount.
They gave me the only instinct they had at that store.. just came in yesterday.. didn't make a fuss either L&R about it costing only $100 + TAXES in the end. *shurg*
Wasn't even going to get it in first place, thought it was too big..
I went down to Telus dealer today and the rep told me they charge the $35 service fee which they cannot waive. I told her that I never got charged this fee before. They still refused to waive the fee. Has anyone able to get this fee waived at the dealer? Telus waived the $25 activation fee only.
Why dont you just order the cell phone from a Telus CSR. Its true, the dealers suck *** and charge all these extra fees that in actuality dont need to be charged. They dont have the ability to waive activation fee so I think your best bet is to call in and buy from Telus CSR.
